Grabouski, Andrews, Stutzman & Richards conquer Night 1 of the IceBreaker Challenge

With temperatures in the 60’s Friday there was no actual ice around Eagle Raceway, but night #1 of this year’s Icebreaker Challenge blew the lid off the 2019 racing season. With over 100 cars in the pits and every driver itching to get their first taste of running the high banks of America’s Home Track this year, the fans were treated to a fantastic night of racing.
No serious incidents occurred in the preliminary action.
The IMCA Stock Car A Feature came to a halt before it had a chance to really get started when the 46 of Paul Burck spun in front of the field on the initial circuit, causing a big pile-up in turns 1 and 2. When a lap was finally in the books Shane Stutzman’s 22SM, the 5B of Matt Boucher, Scott Carlson in the 3 and the 30 f Jordan Grabouski led the field. Carlson and Grabouski both passed Boucher on lap 2 and Grabouski moved around Carlson the next time around. With 10 to go Ryan Harris put the #49 into fourth. From there to the finish it was a heated battle between Grabouski and Stutzman. Grabouski tried both the high and low lines and managed to actually pass Stutzman on the final lap in heavy traffic but Stutzman managed to retake the lead nearing the finish line for the win.
Next up was the finale for the Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Modifieds. The top 4 after the first lap were the 22 of Matthew Andrews, Lance Borgman’s 76, Derek Hall in the 44D and the 6A of Adam Armstrong. Armstrong advanced to third on lap 4. Cody Thompson put the 25C into fourth, but the 17 of Mary Lenz spun out, putting Hall back into fourth. Thompson used the restart to retake fourth and moved to second 3 laps later. Armstrong took over third the next time around. There were 7 laps left when Nick Morris’ 11H, the 219 of Brandon Schmidt and Mike Scheinost’s 51 spun to a halt in turns 3 and 4. Morris and Beau Riffel’s 413 came to a stop in turn 2. From there to the finish the top 4 remained unchanged with Andrews, Armstrong, Thompson and Borgman coming home the top 4.
Tonight is the finale of the 2019 Icebreaker Challenge. Can either Andrews or Grabouski come home first and grab the Twice is Nice reward of an additional $1000 for winning both nights?
The front gates open at 4:30 with adult admission being jut $15, youths 6-12 are 5 and children 5 and under are free. The pit gates open at 3:30 with pit admission being $30. 
The Hoosier Tire IMCA Modifieds and Sam’s Club IMC Sport Modifieds will be joined by the ATV Motorsports Sport Compacts and Duros Dent Works Racesaver IMCA Sprints.
