Arbogast, Danley, Richards, Grabouski & Richards are Armed Forces Salute winners at Eagle Raceway

By Greg Soukup

Armed Forces Night, presented by Twin Rivers and Empire Fence saw a chilly and windy afternoon keeping the fan count down at Eagle Raceway Saturday night, but those who didn’t come missed out on seeing 140 teams going 3 and 4-wide during the heats and preliminary features.

There were no significant incidents in any of the races.

First up for their A Feature were the A1 Iron IMCA Stock Cars. Bob Ruisinger’s 7 and the 51 of Deven Schelm were the first 2 back to the flag stand on lap 1. Cade Richards took the third spot on lap 2 and jumped to the lead the next time around moving Schreiner and Schelm to second and third. Shane Stutzman put the 22S into fourth shortly after. Lap 5 saw the 19 of Kyle Vanover and Marty Steinbach’s 5ELI spin out in turns 1 & 2. At that time, it was Richards, Schelm, Ruisinger and Stutzman. Jordan Grabouski passed Stutzman to put the 30 into fourth on lap 7. The next circuit saw Grabouski move to third with Mike Nichols taking fourth in the 63. Grabouski and Nichols both moved up a spot the next tune around. There were 9 laps remaining when Dylan Haney’s 12X and the 29 of John Meyer spun in turns 1 & 2, 1 lap after the restart Casey Woken took the 4th spot in his 35W. With 2 laps remaining Woken and Nichols got together in turns 3 and 4 and spun out, bringing out the caution flag. That made the top 4 Richards, Grabouski, Max Harder’s 34 and Schelm. The final change in the running order came on the restart as Stutzman again took the 4th spot, making the final top 4 Richards, Grabouski, Harder and Stutzman.

“It was a pretty good run. The track was to my liking. I was able to get down to the bottom and the car ran really good down there. I could rotate it down there and the other guys would slide off, so I could get in there and really run the bottom. It was a really good night for us! I thought the track was really racey. Grabouski and some of the others were running the top and I stuck to the bottom. It was a good night of racing all around. I need to give a special thanks to Tony. He doesn’t help with the stock car often, but we blew up a brand-new crate motor in the modified. He helped us get the A Mod motor out and our B Mod motor in. I can’t thank him enough for all the work he puts in. I probably wouldn’t be out here with the A Mod if it wasn’t for him and my Dad. We were at a disadvantage in the A Mod, but still ran 8th.  He also helped get the stock car ready. Also, everybody else who stops by the shop to lend a hand because it’s really hard getting 2 cars ready every week, and when stuff like losing the crate motor happens, it’s really tough”. Cade’s sponsors include Kosmos Racing, Filley Powder Coating, SCAT Cranks, CP Carillo, Qualcast, Bob Harris Enterprises, Billstein Shocks, Swift springs, J & K Trucking, McLaughlin Masonry, Thingstad Trucking, College View Auto Sales, RaceTech Info, Dynamic Drivelines, Richards Machine and ProCut Tires, Lincoln Capital, Unified Employee Benefits and RAW Materials.

The first circuit of the Avid Realty IMCA Sportmod main even saw Scott Bivens lead lap 1 in the S56 with Roger Sluka’s 5S, the 88F of Richard Flock and Mary Hahn in the 17 rounding out the top 4. Ryan Arbogast vaulted his #2 into third on lap 2, moving Flock to fourth. Arbogast continued his charge, passing Sluka for second the next time around. Hahn regained the fourth spot after another lap. Arie Schouten passed Hahn with 11 to go to put the 99RE into fourth. Arbogast snagged the lead from Bivens with 8 laps left. Hahn and the 96 of Gary Saathoff spun in turns 1 & 2 the next lap for a caution. Saathoff looped it on the front stretch on the restart and the yellow flag came out. Saathoff headed to the pits. Schouten moved into second on the restart. There were just 3 circuits remaining when Matt Andrews cracked the top 4 in the 22. The next lap saw Breanna Pfanstiel spin out in 3 and 4. There was a debris caution with 1 to go, slowing the action again. On the final lap Andrews moved to third making the final top 4 Arbogast, Schouten, Andrews and Bivens.

“It feels great to finally get my first win in a sportmod. We threw some stuff at the car that we hadn’t tried yet and it felt great! I can’t thank my sponsors enough for their help”. Ryan’s sponsors include Leiting Motorsports, The Load Shop, Barry Lewis and Lewis Performance and Automotive, Lindsey Lou’s Sweet Things, Kearney Aaron’s Rent to Own and Fanatics Sports Bar in Kearney.

The Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock A was next on the high banks. Tanner Dowty looped his 7T in turn 4 on the first attempt at a start for a caution. When a lap was officially in the books Kenny Roberts’ 69, the 11 of Claton Peters, Jeff Watts’ 66 and the 46 of Ryan Gilland were the top 4. Peters passed Roberts for the lead on lap 4. Dillon Richards moved his 24R into fourth the next circuit and advanced to third before taking the lead with 9 to go. Khrysta Stransky’s 39 and Dowty spun in 3 & 4 with 6 laps left to slow the action again. Travis Landauer put the 45 into third on the restart as Mike Hansen grabbed fourth in the 94. Hansen passed Landauer for third 3 laps later but got spun. There were no further changes in the top four to the checkered flag. Richards won, Peters was second with Watts third and Landauer fourth.

This was Richards’ second victory on the season, coming from 14th on the starting grid. “We found a broken spring after the heat and had to change it. That really helped and made it possible to get the win”. Richards’ sponsors include Fester’s Bait & Tackle, Inline Healing, Jet Racing, Jordan Grabouski Racing, S&L Trenching, Hamilton Construction and Stinger Race Engines.

The Nebraska Lottery IMCA Modified A Feature’s first circuit saw Dustin Andersen’s 8A out front of the initial lap followed by the 3D of Trey Duensing Duensing took the lead on lap 3. Hurt moved up to Cade Richards put the 1R into fourth place on lap 5 but lost the spot to the 8C of Chad Andersen the next time around. Hurt moved to third with 13 to go. Ryan Jenkins hit the turn 4 wall on lap 10 as Jordan Grabouski put the 30 into fourth. Grabouski took advantage of the restart to move up to third and advanced to second the next time around. Grabouski took over the lead with 4 to go as John Saathoff jumped up to third in the 96J but lost the spot back to Chad Andersen. The final top 4 were Grabouski, Duensing, Dustin Andersen and Saathoff.

This was Grabouski’s second modified victory at Eagle this season after starting 12th. “It was a really good racetrack tonight; you could race all over it. It was a really fun night! It was a little chilly, but Trey got second in one if our cars and it’s always great to see the top 2 be cars from out of our shop”.  Jordan’s sponsors include Twin Rivers Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Integra Racing Shocks, CPD, Friesen Chevrolet, Stone Oil Fields, Moock Trucking, Wojo Painting, VP Heartland, Schmidt Trucking, ASE Engineering and GRT.

The final A Feature of the night was for the Twin Rivers IMCA Racesaver Sprints. Derek Kral’s 85, the 15V of Cole Vanderheiden, Gene Ackland in the 14G and the 03 of Shayle Bade led the first circuit. Bade moved up to third on lap 2 but lost the spot back to Ackland the next time around. There were 13 circuits remaining when Jason Danley passed Bade for fourth in the 4X, advancing to third with 8 to go. Bade again moved to fourth the next lap. Danley advanced to second with 7 to go and Bade got up to third the following circuit. Danley snagged the lead with 5 to go. The next lap Brandon Horton spun the 1B in turn 2 for the final caution of the night. Stu Snyder jumped up to third on the restart and advanced to second the next time around with Ackland retaking fourth. The final top 4 were Danley, Snyder, Kral and Ackland.

Tonight was Jason’s first win of the 2022 season. I asked Jason how long he had been racing and was told “I think this is my 35th season racing sprints. I started in 1988. It feels good to get the monkey off of my back. It’s been a rough start but hopefully we’ve finally got this thing figured out and we can start going forward again. I can’t thank my crew enough for their hard work trying to make this car go because they never give up”.

Jason’s sponsors include Climatech Heating and Air, Speedway Engines and Speedway shocks.
