Anderson, Kitchen, Gilland, Zoubek & Williams win at Dad’s Crash Bash

Anderson, Kitchen, Gilland, Zoubek & Williams win at Dad’s Crash Bash

By Greg Soukup

The old saying is “Absence makes the heart grow fonder”, but in my case 11 days with no dirt track racing just makes me madder at that fictional female deity that all fans and drivers love to hate. Luckily I and a very large crowd got their fix Saturday night as Hotsy and Nebraska Realty presented Dads Crash Bash at Eagle Raceway.

There were no serious incidents throughout the evening’s racing.

First up for their A Feature were the A1 Iron IMCA Stock Cars. Bob Ruisinger put the #7 out front on lap 1 with Shane Stutzman’s 22, the 2X of Hunter Wergin and Dan Jackson’s 3 rounding out the top 4. Lap 2 saw the 71JJ of Jerod Bussen spin out on the back stretch for a caution. Ruisinger stopped at the top of turn 1 on the restart. That made the top 4 Stutzman, Wergin, Jackson and the 17TK of Travis Patterson. Nick Beckman passed Patterson to put the 22 into fourth place. Dylan Haney looped the 12X in turn 2 and Patterson headed to the infield. Bussen again spun out on lap 3 in turn 1. Jackson spun in turn 3 on the restart after Beckman med contact with him, moving the 5B of Matt Boucher up to fourth and Beckman to third. Boucher got past Beckman on lap 5 to grab third but lost the spot back to him the next lap. Boucher spun out the following lap and Benji Legg moved to fourth in the 84. Legg lost the position to the 6 of Jeremy Down on lap 8. With 10 to go Gary Laflin’s #9 spun out in turn 3 after contact with the 24R of Dillon Richards who was sent to the rear of the pack. Lap 10 saw John Anderson put the 21X into fourth place. The following circuit saw Down slide up into Wergin, collecting Jeremy Bohlen’s 10J. That allowed Legg to move back into fourth. John Anderson made a huge move with 7 to go, vaulting all of the way up to second in the 21X. Anderson snagged the lead with 3 to go when Beckman went high in turns 1 and 2. The final change in the top 4 came on the final circuit when Marty Steinbach put the 5ELI into fourth. The final top 4 were  Anderson, Stutzman, Beckman and Steinbach.

Anderson started dead last in the field and came through traffic to win. He said “I got a few timely cautions there, and the track was  great. You could race on it a couple of different places. That allowed me to get up there. It was awesome coming from the back”.

There was a huge pile-up coming out of turn 4 on the start of the Avid Realty IMCA Sportmod finale with Drake Bohlmeyer’s 24, the 18M of Mason Richards, Joe Feyen in the 25X, Jacob Swanson’s 31S and McLain Reed in the 44 coming to a halt. The first official lap saw Richard Flock put the 88F out front followed by the 27W of Noah Williams,0020the 31R of James Hines and Shawn Pospisil’s 6SJ. Williams got around Flock for the lead on lap 3 with Ryan Arbogast taking over the fourth position in the #2. Arbogast advanced to third on lap 7 as Adam Vrbka cracked the top 4 in the 7V. Vrbka moved around Arbogast with 10 to go and moved up to second a lap later. Flock fell back rapidly 2 laps later with a flat right front tire, allowing the top 3 to advance and Matt Andrews to put the 22 into fourth. Andrews moved up one more spot to third with four to go and passed Vrbka on the last lap for second. The final top 4 were Williams, Andrews, Vrbka and Arbogast.

Noah’s victory came after starting eighth and was his second win at Eagle Raceway this season. He related “We had a really good car tonight once again. We found a couple of motor issues over the last couple of weeks and got them fixed; got a fresh power plant in it and we’re back on top, back in victory lane”. Noah’s sponsors include Amberly Dental, No Limits Tree Service, Little Giants, Farmer’s Mutual Bank of Ashland, Sons of the American Legion in Ashland, Siemer’s Body Shop, Galioda Landscaping, CB Enterprises and BTS Detailing.

Norm Ziegenbein’s 1X was first back to the flag stand on lap 1 of the Nebraska Lottery IMCA Modified Feature. Jeremy Baker’s 3J, the 40 of Shawn Harker and Mike Densberger in the 81 rounded out the top 4. Harker moved up to second on lap 2 with Bob Zoubek passing Densberger to put the 5S into first. Jared Deterding’s 13J came to a halt in turn 4 the following lap for a caution. Zoubek took advantage of the restart to advance to third before taking the second spot after one more circuit. Densberger regained fourth place that same lap. Lap 7 saw

Zoubek passed Ziegenbein for the lead. Densberger moved up to third on lap 9 and the battle for the lead was on! Ziegenbein and Zoubek fought tooth and nail with Zoubek holding the lead until only 2 laps were left when Ziegenbein grabbed the lead. Not to be denied, Zoubek returned the favor, regaining the top spot on the final lap. The top 4 were Zoubek, Ziegenbein, Densberger and Harker.

Bob’s win also came from outside of the fourth row of the starting grid. He stated “I bout gave the win away with 2 laps to go. With 5 or 6 laps left I broke the left upper control arm on my car, so we were slowing down going in and all of a sudden Norm surprised me by going by. But then, he screwed up and gave it back to me the next lap. I tried giving it to him and he gave it right back. Thanks to everyone that makes it possible for me to be out here”. Bob’s sponsors include City Slickers Bar, Noonan Enterprises, Behrens Sweet Corn, Kometscher Roofing, Schweitzer Farms, Complete Ag, Pracheil Farms, Klein Construction and Mahloch Motorsports.

Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock Main’s first lap lead went to the 22T of Tyler Smith with Nick Jensen’s 48J, the 7T of Tanner Dowty and Troy Dowty in the 17T close behind. Tanner Dowty passed Jensen on lap 2 to take over the second spot. The next lap saw John Martinez pass Troy Dowty to put the 00J into fourth. Tanner Dowty went to the infield on lap 5 as Martinez took over second, moving Jensen to third and Troy Dowty to fourth. Ian Roschewski looped his #2 in turns 1 & 2 on lap 6 for a caution. Kyle Gannon used the restart to take over fourth in the 66G from Troy Dowty .Gannon moved up to third the next time around. Martinez snagged the top spot the following circuit as Ryan Gilland put the #46 into fourth. Gilland moved up to third with 8 to go and took over second when Smith spun in turn 2the next lap. Dan Markham inherited fourth place in the #6. At that point it was Martinez, Gilland, Gannon and Markham. Gilland made a great move on the final circuit to pass Martinez for the win. Martinez, Gannon and Markham rounded out the top 4.

Gilland win was his second of the season at Eagle Raceway, coming from twelfth at the start. He said “I knew that I had to be patient. Try to keep my nose clean and not get into any wrecks. It was pretty slick, so it’s always good to slow down and eventually you’ll get up there. I have to thank my wife and my daughter for helping me and allowing me to do this. Also, my whole crew and everybody that helps out. This is awesome!!”. Ryan’s sponsors include Concrete Corrections, Paul Scholl Construction, Lincoln Winelectric, Bridget and Greg Thornberg, JTR Logistics, Burrows Tracts and Real Estate, Gilland Electric, Gilland Builders, Ironwood Builders, Extreme Motorsports and Jet Racing.

The final A Feature was for the Twin Rivers IMCA Racesaver Sprints. Ryan Kitchen took advantage of starting outside the front row to put the 21 into first place, with Chase Weiler’s 0, the 55 of Doug Lovegrove and Jacob Dye’s 20D in hot pursuit. Lovegrove passed Weiler for second place on lap 2. Adam Gullion took over fourth in his 91 on lap 6 and moved up to third two laps later. Jay Russell put the #76 into fourth on lap 11. Gullion got past Lovegrove on lap 12 for second. Russell also passed Lovegrove with 7 to go, grabbing the third spot. Stu Snyder jumped all the way up to third the next circuit in the #5, moving Russell back to fourth. Snyder continued his move to the front with 3 to go when he passed Gullion for second. The final top 4 were Kitchen, Snyder, Gullion and Russell.

Ryan related “It’s always good if you can start up front here, especially with all of the good cars and fast guys. Having track position is key around here. We found a setup about 3 weeks ago that worked really well at this place so we put the same one on it again and just drove around here wide open. They told me that I had a half lap lead so I plan to stick to it. Clint Benson and Mike Boston were battling for position late in the race; one on the top and one on the bottom. They were both going the same speed and I wasn’t going to push the issue by trying to slide one and give up my position. So, I was just rolling around waiting for one of them to pull ahead  of the other or both to go to the top, or both to go to the bottom. But it never happened. Coming to the checkered flag out of turn 4 Stu showed his nose and from there on it was just wide open down the straightaway, hoping that we beat him, and we did”. Ryan’s sponsors include Midwest Petroleum, Swirlfire Screen Printing, 91 Trucking, King Racing Products, Maxim, BP, AL Drivelines, Simpson Racing Products, Big Pickle Trucking and Clint’s Tree Service.
