Vrbka, Gullion, Young, Kiihne & Saathoff prevail at Uncle Sam Slam

Duros Dent Works, Racesaver and Budweiser or at least watching it on the live stream you missed some really incredible racing. Two and three wide racing with multiple lead changes right up until the final lap made for a fabulous night.

There were no significant incidents in the preliminary events.

Jeremy Downs’ 4D led lap #1 of the Coors Light IMCA Sportmod finale with Shawn Hein in the 5H, Mike Scheinost in the 51 and the 5S of Roger Sluka rounding out the top 4. Hein grabbed the lead on lap 2 with Scheinost following him into second the next time around. Sluka moved up to third after 2 more circuits. Arie Schouten put the 99RE into fourth the next lap but lost the spot to Adam Vrbka’s 7V the next lap. Scheinost passed Hein for the lead the next time around with Vrbka moving to second. It took 2 more laps for Vrbka to get past Scheinost for the lead as Hein moved to the infield putting Schouten back into fourth. Cole Wayman jumped up to third 2 laps later in his 18W but lost the spot to Schouten after another circuit. Schouten took over second the next lap with Wayman following him into third 2 laps later. Vrbka held on for the win with Schouten, Wayman and Sluka rounding out the top 4.

Khrysta Stransky’s 39, the 92 of Don Hall Jr., Chantel Bade in the 02 and Tyler Jackson’s 13T were the first four back to the flag stand on the first circuit of the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock A Feature. Jackson jumped up to second on lap 2 and took the lead on lap 3 with Hall second, the 46 of Ryan Gilland third and Albert Kiihne’s 85 fourth. Kiihne passed Gilland the next time around. Duane Wahrman’s 17W pulled to the infield in a cloud of smoke on lap 5 and the caution flag flew. Kiihne moved to second on the restart and took the lead 2 laps later. Tyler Saathoff put the 16T into fourth 3 laps later and advanced to third after 2 more circuits. Bade stopped on the front stretch the next lap for another caution. Hall passed Saathoff on the restart but lost the spot back to him after another lap. Saathoff moved to second the next lap with Hall following him to third the next time around. The final change in the top 4 came with 2 to go when Dillon Richards jumped up to third in the 24R. Kiihne, Saathoff, Richards and Hall were the top 4.

The Nebraska Lottery IMCA Modified main event was next and started with a big pileup in turn 4 with Jordan Grabouski’s 30, the 1S of Rodney Stopak and Mike Lineberry’s 75 involved. Grabouski headed to the pits but returned to join the back of the field. The first official lap saw Rik Gropp’s V45, the 24T of Terry Hurt, Justin Wulf in the 86 and the 7 of Bob Ruisinger the top 4. Hurt passed Gropp the next lap as Johnny Saathoff’s 96J moved up to fourth. Jaxon Saathoff spun the 96 in turn 2 on lap 8 for a caution. Johnny Saathoff moved to second on the restart. Shane Hiatt put the 21H into third the next lap when Ruisinger smacked the Armco barrier in turn 3. There were 9 laps remaining when Johnny Saathoff moved to the lead. Mike Densberger put the 81 into third the next time around. Jared Deterding spun in turn 2 after another circuit and the yellow lights were lit in the corners. 1 lap after the restart Densberger moved up to second. Grabouski had battled from the rear of the pack and moved to fourth with 6 to go and advanced to third after 2 more laps. Hiatt got back up to fourth with 2 to go making the top 4 Johnny Saathoff, Densberger, Grabouski and Hiatt.

Josh Young led the field in the 13J after the first circuit of the ATV Motorsports IMCA Sport Compact feature followed by Dan Markham’s 6, the 3 of Tim Horsham and Luke Nicholson’s 55N. Dillon Richards put the 19 into fourth on lap 2. Horsham advanced to second the next time around as Richards followed him into third. The 13T of Dillon Thurman lost a tire with 3 laps left for a caution. 1 lap after the restart Tyler Masek put the 23B into fourth and moved to third the last lap making the top 4 Young, Horsham, Masek and Markham.

The final contest of the evening was the A Feature for the Duros Dent Works Racesaver IMCA Sprint Cars and was possibly the best race of the evening. Tim Fricke led the first circuit in the 62 with Tim Hilfiker’s 20, the 1B of Brandon Horton and Troy Sanford’s 12K in hot pursuit. Hilfiker took the lead the next lap with Horton moving to second after another circuit with Jordan Grabouski putting the 30 into fourth. Grabouski advanced to third the next time around with Gunnar Pike putting the 25 into fourth. Pike got past Grabouski 3 laps later for third. Sanford looped his sprinter in turn 4 the next time around to slow the action. Grabouski and Pike both moved up 1 spot on the restart to second and third. Bobby Becker spun the 8B out in turn 4 after another lap. Grabouski took over the top spot on the restart with Gene Ackland putting the 14G into fourth. Ackland leaped up to second the next lap with Pike moving up to third. Pike passed Ackland the next lap for second. Jason Danley cracked the top 4 the next time around in the 4X. 2 laps later Ackland moved past Pike to retake second. There was 11 to go when Fricke and Hilfiker both spun out for another caution. Ackland grabbed the lead on the restart and Adam Gullion vaulted up to third in the 91. Grabouski passed Ackland 2 laps later with Danley regaining fourth. Becker and the 25A of Alex Davenport both spun out in turn 2 the next lap. At that time, it was Grabouski, Ackland, Gullion and Danley. Gullion passed Ackland on the restart for second. Gullion got around Grabouski the next lap for the lead but Hilfiker and Clint Benson came to a stop in turn 2 to negate his pass. Gullion would not be denied however and too the lead on the restart. Ackland got past Grabouski 2 laps later and Danley also passed him with 3 to go making the final top 4 Gullion, Ackland, Danley and Grabouski. This marked the 9th different winner in the 9 A Mains held so far this season, proving what a fantastic series the Racesaver class is.

Next weekend Duros Dent Works, ATV Motorsports and the Lincoln Stars present Party In The USA. Front gates open at 5:00 with hot laps at 5:30 and racing at 6:30. Front gate adult admission is $12, youths 6-12 are just $5 and children 5 and under are free. All 5 classes will be competing including the Duros Dent Works Sprint Cars, Nebraska Lottery Modifieds, Coors Light SportMods, Valentino’s Hobby Stocks & ATV Motor Sports Sport Compacts.

Pit gates open at 3:30 with pit passes costing $30.
