Pike, Ware,Roth,Young and Snyder Win Colby Ridge Sweet Spree

70-degree weather helped to erase the memory of having the planned season opener last weekend from the minds of the fans and racers Saturday night when they arrived at Eagle Raceway for Junior Fan Club Sweet Spree presented by Colby Ridge.

The preliminary action went off with no serious incidents.

The Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Modified A Feature saw Gunnar Pike put his #25 out front followed by Adam Vrbka’s 7V, the 44D of Derek Hall and Roger Sluka in the 5S. Hall passed Vrbka on lap 2. Shawn Harker cracked the top 4 on lap 4 to put the 40 into fourth. On the restart following a lap 10 caution Harker moved up to third and then advanced to second the following lap. Arie Schouten put the 99RE into fourth with 7 laps remaining. 3 more yellow flags were displayed before the end of the race, but nobody could catch Pike. Schouten moved up to third on the final circuit to make the top 4 Pike, Harker, Schouten and Vrbka.

Jeff Ware took advantage of starting up front to grab the lead at the end of the first lap of the Valentinos IMCA Hobby Stock finale in the 83 with Roy Armstrong’s 6R the 7T of Tanner Dowty and Brooke Fluckiger in the 2B rounding out the top 4. Dowty dropped out of the top 4 on lap 4 as Fluckiger moved to third and Jeff Watts put the 66 into fourth. Jeff Watts passed Fluckiger the next time around for third. Fluckiger jumped back to third the next lap. Watts again took over the third spot after a caution on lap 7. Nick Beckman got past Watts on lap 10 in the 22.2 straight cautions happened with 2 laps left and Beckman and Mike Hansen’s 94 moved Armstrong dropped out on the last lap making the top 4 Ware, Beckman, Hansen and the 24 of Dillon Richards.

The first lap of the Hoosier Tire IMCA Modified Feature saw Bob Zoubek’s 5S, the 60IV of Anthony Roth, Shane Hiatt in the 21H and the V45 of Rik Gropp out front. Mike Densberger got past Gropp on lap 4 to put the 81 into fourth. Zoubek tried to pass a lapped car on the 10^th circuit, got pinched into the wall and damaged his racer too badly to continue. That put the 30 of Jordan Grabouski into fourth. Grabouski moved up to third with 7 to go and advanced to second with 3 to go. Roth ended up stretching his lead  at the finish but second through 4^th were in a titanic battle. The final top 4 were Roth, Grabouski, Hiatt and Densberger.

Next the ATV Motorsports IMCA Sport Compacts came onto the high banks for their A Main. Josh Young’s 13J, the 26B of Noah Boller, Josh Johnson in the 25X and RJ Maas were the first four to the flag stand on lap 1 after the initial start was called back. Nathan Wahlstrom used a restart after a caution on lap 4 to pass Maas and then put the 32X into third the next time around. Another yellow flag was thrown on lap 6. Brian Cronin put the 35 into fourth on the restart as Wahlstrom moved up to second. Young held off all challenges to the finish to win followed by Wahlstrom, Boller and Cronin.

Lastly the Duros Dent Works Racesaver IMCA Sprint Cars were up to close out the evening’s action. The 93 of Adam Gullion, Ryan King’s 93 the 4W of Nate Weiler and Stu Snyder’s 5 led the field on lap #1. The red lights came on in the corners when Shayle Bade’s 03 hit the wall in turns 1 and 2. Snyder got past Weiler on lap 7 and Josh Riggins also managed to pass Weiler to grab fourth in his 14J. Shortly after that Nate Johnson’s 97 flipped and the red flag flew again. Snyder moved up to second with 5 to go but was not able to catch Gullion. The first four back to the checkered flag were Gullion, Snyder, King and Riggins. However, in post-race tech Gullion’s engine was found to have excessive valve lift and he was disqualified, handing the victory to Snyder.

Next weekend Pepsi presents Ladies Night!! The Duros Dent Works Racesaver IMCA Sprint Cars, Hoosier Tire IMCA Modifieds, Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Modifieds, Valentinos IMCA Hobby Stocks and ATV Motorsports IMCA Sport Compacts will all be in action.

Front gates open at 5:15, hot laps kick off at 5:30 with racing at 6:30. Adult admission is just $10, youths 6-12 are only $5 and children 5 and under are free.

Pit gates swing open at 4 P.M. with pit admission being $25.
