Roll with it! Night wins taken by Borgman, Armstrong, Saathoff, Moyer and Benson

By Greg Soukup

A large crowd filed in through the front gates of Eagle Raceway Saturday night under sunny skies and temperatures in the high 80’s for Roll with it! Night, presented by Froggy 98 and Coors Light. By the time the 138 cars ran their heats and readied for their B and A Features, the sun started to set and the racing heated to offset the cooling air.

The sole serious incident in the heats came in the third heat for the Racesaver IMCA Sprint cars as the #5 of Ron Love made contact with Terry Richards’ 18, sending Richards into the front stretch wall and then spinning through the air. Richards walked back to the pits, but his racer was damaged too seriously to continue.

The NAPA IMCA Sport Modified Feature saw Bob Ruisinger’s 7, the 09RX of Randy Fox, Gunnar Pike’s 25 and Lance Borgman in the 76 out front on lap 1. Borgman passed Pike on lap 3 and then got past Fox the next lap to grab second and Pike took third. Borgman continue his march to the front, taking over the lead on lap 6 with Fox moving back to second. The yellow lights were lit on lap 9 for the 25X of Joe Feyen who spun in turns 1 & 2. Benji Legg continued his furious comeback from the C Feature on lap 12 when he put the 25B into fourth. Legg then moved to third with 5 to go. Trent Roth’s 14T slowed the next circuit, bringing out the yellow flag again. Legg used the restart to move past Fox for second as Pike again moved to fourth. At the finish it was Borgman, Legg, Fox and Pike.

This was Borgman’s second win of the 2015 season at Eagle Raceway. Borgman said “I started sixth row inside, and pretty much it was just move to the front and never look back. I really appreciate all the fans that come out here weekly. Without them we couldn’t do this. Also, thanks to my father and father-in-law for all of their hard work”. Borgman’s sponsors include Jet Racing, Coordsen Farms, Penner Insurance and Hergott Farms.

Chad Borgman’s 20X led the first lap of the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock A with Tim Kozak’s 29, the 92 of Don Hall Jr. and the 2C of David Carter rounding out the top 4. Carter moved up to third on lap 3 as Adam Armstrong put the 6A into fourth. Borgman dropped to fourth the next time around as Carter grabbed the lead, Kozak held second and Armstrong moved to third.  1 more lap was in the books as Adam’s father Roy Armstrong passed Borgman to put the 6R into fourth. Kozak and Adam Armstrong advanced one spot each the next lap to first and second. Carter stopped in turns 3 & 4 on lap 10, allowing Chad Fegley’s 13F to take over fourth.  Roy Armstrong moved to second with 4 laps remaining and Fegley moved up to third on the final lap. Adam Armstrong, Roy Armstrong, Borgman and Fegley were the top 4.

This was Adam’s third win in a row at Eagle. “I got really lucky somehow. The right front ball joint came out of the upper A-arm sometime during the night, but we got to the front and held on for the win. Overall, it was a good night. I’m really happy for Johnny Saathoff to have the winner in 3 classes be a Jet Racing car” Armstrong related. Adam’s sponsors include Jet Racing, Hummer Contracting, Ron Fox and Sons Motorsports, Scat Cranks and Icon Pistons.

The Kaplan University IMCA Modified main event saw a car contact the wall in turn 1 and the race was slowed before it could really get started. When a lap was official it was Chevy Hadan’s 4, the 86 of Justin Wulf, Dustin Andersen’s 8A and the 72 of Mike Lineberry out front. Jared Hoefelman cracked the top 4 the next lap, putting the 15H into fourth. Nathan Landauer moved the 11N past Hoefelman the next lap to take over fourth. Hoefelman backed into the infield the next lap for a caution period. On the restart Landauer moved up to third. Jan Korth stopped just off the track in the front stretch infield in the 42K on lap 6 for another yellow, collecting Hadan’s racer. That made the top 4 Wulf, Landauer, Dustin Andersen and the 8C of Chad Andersen. The restart saw Johnny Saathoff put the 96J into fourth as Chad Andersen moved up to third. The next time around Saathoff advanced to third. Phillip Byfield spun the 10 the next lap in turn 4. 1 lap after the restart Saathoff moved up to second and Bob Zoubek put the 33Z into fourth with 4 laps remaining. Shane Hiatt took over the spot shortly after that, making his 21H fourth. Hiatt then moved to second with 3 to go. Saathoff held on for the win, followed by Hiatt, Wulf and Landauer.

“This was my first A Feature win of the year, and I’m so glad that it came here at Eagle Raceway; my home track! I was getting nervous the last 5 laps, because I almost lost it. Thanks to Roger the track is getting better, and we’re finally getting the car set to where the track is. We’ll keep coming back and trying to win” Saathoff related. Saathoff’s sponsors include Jet Racing, Northeast Auto, Carl’s Performance, I-70 Auto Auction, Penner Insurance, Brad, Toobie’s Lumber and Independent Equipment.

Next was the A Feature for the Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Compacts. Nick Jensen’s 48J, Michelle Nicholson’s 88, the 18R of Tom Powell and RJ Maas’ 88K were the first four back to the flag stand on lap 1. Powell jumped to second on lap 4 with Maas moving to third 2 laps later and Tim Horsham putting the 3 into fourth. Larry Cronin hit the wall on the back stretch VERY hard on lap 7 after his steering wheel came off. The red lights were lit as Cronin temporarily lost consciousness. He was taken back to his pit eventually and appeared unhurt after the races. Horsham hit the restart cone and was put to the back, so Nicholson again took over fourth. On the next restart Cole Krichau passed Nicholson for fourth. With 7 to go Krichau moved up to third. The next lap Matt Moyer jumped up to third the next time around in his 29. Moyer advanced to second with 4 to go and then grabbed the lead for good the next time around and held on for the win. The remainder of the top 4 were Jensen, Powell and Krichau.

This was Moyer’s second 2015 win at Eagle Raceway. “First of all, thanks to you and your wife for your hard work in the pit shack, and to you for doing the stories for the website every week. And thanks to Roger for giving us a track to race on every week. I think the class is a lot faster this year. The racing is really clean and I loved the great 3-wide racing we had tonight at the end of the race” Moyer said. Moyer’s sponsors include General Siding Supply, Ludemann Construction, Kinnersley Grading and Scott Angel at the Design Shop.

Keith Dragoo led lap 1 of the Racesaver IMCA Sprint Car A Feature with Gene Ackland’s 14G, the 95 of Dan Satriano and Brandon Horton’s 1B close behind. Joey Danley jumped all of the way up to third on lap 2 in his #14. Clint Benson put the #100 into fourth the next time around and got to third before the lap was over. Dragoo went to the infield on lap 4, putting the 51 of Mike Boston in fourth. Trevor Grossenbacher moved the 35 into fourth on lap 5. Benson snagged the lead on lap 7 with Danley following into second the next circuit. Grossenbacher also passed Ackland on lap 12 for third. Boston followed suit, moving past Ackland back into fourth on lap 14. Grossenbacher got past Danley with 7 to go and Boston moved to third on the final lap. At the checkers it was Benson, Grossenbacher, Boston and Danley.

This was Benson’s initial Eagle Raceway win in 2015. “The track just keeps getting better this year. Tracks everywhere have been having trouble because of the weather. I just tried to be clean tonight. I moved to the cushion, but could run low if traffic made me” stated Benson. Benson’s sponsors include JT Auto Body, Liberty Tax, Trail Performance, Sardeson Racing and Bacardi.
