Interview with 2025 Modified Track Champion Shawn Harker
By Greg Soukup
The fourth person in this year’s series of interviews with the 2025 Class Champions is Shawn “The Shark” Harker who came out as the top points earner in the Modified Class. Having been fortunate enough to have spoken to Shawn several times after his wins last season I can tell you that he’s a man of few words that lets his heavy right foot and driving abilities speak for him, as this interview will clearly show.
This coming season will be Shawn’s 27th year of racing, having begun his competitive career running a Hobby Stock at I-80 Speedway. He then advanced to a Sportmod, winning several championships at both I-80 with his last one coming in 2021 at Eagle. He finally moved into the Modified Class the following year. He also can add Late Models among others to his resume. He summed it up by saying “I’ve raced just about every class that you can race on dirt.” I joked with him, asking when he was planning on moving up to the sprint car class to which he replied “I would like to get into one, just to hot lap it so that I could say I’d done it. Honestly, I think that’s the only dirt track car that I’ve never driven.”
We then spoke about the 2025 season. “Last season was really, really good! We were pretty consistent all year and we had a total of 6 wins coupled with just one DNF when we got caught up in someone else’s wreck. I think we could have had a few more wins, but all in all we were very excited about how the season went.” I mentioned to him how hot the team had gotten towards the end of the season and he said “Yeah! I don’t know if it was the summer heat or the way the track was prepped. We made some changes to the car and I really liked the way the track conditions were towards the end and we just started reeling off the wins. We ended up with 6 total wins and 3 second places; a pretty consistent year,”
Next we talked about his plans for this year. “We’re going to start off running some specials beginning the year. Our plans are pretty much the same as they have been, We plan to be at Eagle pretty much every week. We do want to run some more specials early in the season to start and see how it goes.”
I inquired about any people that he wanted to thank and he said “I have to thank all of my sponsors of course. I need to especially thank my wife Amy, my kids Lextyn, Preston, and Boston and my Dad. This race team is a family thing. Also, my crew guys Braden, Alan, Todd and everyone else that helps us out. We’re all anxious to get the season started.”
For those of us doing our own personal countdown to racing season at Eagle Raceway, it’s only 3 weeks and 5 days until the dirt flies in earnest on April 17th and 18th for the Icebreaker Challenge which is always the first event of the year at America’s home track, so let’s all cross our fingers, toes and eyes and pray for warm weather and clear skies those 2 days.
See you all there at One Badass Racetrack!!!
