IMCA Sponsor's Contingency Awards For Sprint Nationals Weekend

The history of the division long ago known as the IMCA big cars continues this weekend at Eagle Raceway, with the second annual Sprint Car Super Nationals.

The first IMCA events were held at county and state fairgrounds tracks in 1915. Under the hood horsepower steadily replaced horse racing at venues across the country and many IMCA Sprint Car hotshoes became household names before World War II intervened.

Racing resumed in 1946 and so did the popularity of IMCA and its drivers. The likes of Bobby Grim, Emory Collins, Deb Snyder, and Pete Folse thrilled fans from coast to coast, each winning more than 100 sanctioned features over the course of their stories careers.

Hard times came to the division in the 1970s as a lingering recession and the gas crisis combined to idle IMCA and its Sprint Car class.

Fast forward to 1989 and IMCA brought the winged cars back to weekly race programs and to the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s program at Boone, Iowa, Speedway.

Car count numbers this weekend are likely an all-time event record for IMCA Sprint Cars and are direct results of the boost received by division in the partnership since last season with French Grimes and RaceSaver, division title sponsor Eagle Motorsports of Lincoln and promoter Roger Hadan, his wife Michelle and the talented crew at Eagle Raceway.

Eagle became the first track in Nebraska to sanction the IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Cars and ended a banner 2013 season with the inaugural Sprint Car Super Nationals. That event brought more than 50 teams from nine states to Eagle.  This year's event has drivers coming from 10 states and 1 from Australia.
