Victories are taken by Snyder, Richards, Feyen, Richards & Andersen at Eagle Raceway’s Jr Fan Club Night

By Greg Soukup

There was a huge sigh of relief when it was announced that Junior Fan Club Night, presented by Colby Ridge and Village Pointe Toyota at Eagle Raceway was a go!!! Despite several episodes of drenching rain during the week, including 2 inches of precipitation Friday night, the Eagle Raceway track prep crew pulled off a near miracle and got the racing surface ready to go and provided a great venue for fabulous action on the high banks.

There were no serious incidents in the preliminary races.

The A1 Iron IMCA Stock Car Feature saw Matt Boucher’s 5B lead lap 1 with Cade Richards’ 1R, the 21C of Chad Clancy and Nick Beckman’s 22 rounding out the top 4. Clancy passed Boucher for second on lap 3 as Shane Stutzman putting the 22S into fourth, dropping Richards to fourth. Stutzman ended up barrel rolling his car in turn 3, ending upside down and totally destroying the car. He was not seriously injured, but an extended red flag status ensued to get him free of his car and to right the car and move it to the infield. That moved Richards back to third and Beckman to fourth. Lap 6 saw Dylan Haney’s 12X stop in turn 2 and Beckman head to the pits to have a flat right rear tire replaced. That allowed Lance Borgman’s 76 to take the fourth spot. Richards advanced to second on the restart. Lap 9 saw Joseph Baker’s 6Nlaw stop in turn 1 and the yellow flag flew again. Richards took advantage of the restart to grab the lead. The following lap Boucher moved up to second. There were just 5 circuits remaining when Borgman advanced to second and took over the second spot the next time around. With 1 to go Gary Laflin looped the #9 on the back stretch, setting up a green/white/checkered finish. Richards fended off serious pressure from Borgman for the win. Borgman came home second, Boucher third and Clancy fourth.

This was another clean sweep for Richards and was his second victory at Eagle this year. “We were able to find our way through there and get out front. The clean air really helped because I could run anywhere I wanted to, and it felt like we had a really good race. I came up on that lapped car with 1 to go so fast that I didn’t know where to go. I accidently tapped him and he went around but I had no intention of doing that. I tried high and low but just couldn’t figure out where he was going to go” said Richards. Cade’s sponsors include Kosmos Racing, Filley Powder Coating, SCAT Cranks, CP Carillo, Qualcast, Bob Harris Enterprises, Billstein Shocks, Swift springs, J & K Trucking, McLaughlin Masonry, Thingstad Trucking, College View Auto Sales, RaceTech Info, Dynamic Drivelines, Richards Machine and ProCut Tires.

The first lap of the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock A saw Adam Wasserman’s 41 make contact with the back stretch wall and stopping for a caution. When a circuit was finally in the books Albert Kiihne’s 85, David Carter in the 2C, Damon Richards’ 24R and the 3A of Neil Pella out front. Carter spun in turn 3 on lap 5, collecting the 7T of Tanner Dowty. That put the 83 of Jeff Ware in fourth. Pella moved up to second on lap 8 but Richards got a great run the next lap to take the lead and Pella followed him to hold on to second. One lap later Ware passed Kiihne for third. The top 4 remained unchanged to the checkers with Richards winning, Pella second, Ware third and Kiihne fourth.

This was Dillon’s second win at Eagle this season, coming from 8th on the starting grid. He stated “It’s feels pretty good because we’ve been struggling lately, but hopefully we’re back and don’t have any more bad luck. 3 weeks in a row we’ve gone out, but here we are! I knew the last 4 laps that I had to be careful because a couple of weeks ago I was leading by a straightaway and I spun out, so I wanted to be sure I didn’t do that again”. Dillon’s sponsors include S&L Trenching, Fester’s Bait and Tackle, Inline Healing, Stinger Race Engines, Five Two Customs, Jet Racing and Land’s Waterproofing.

Next out for their A Main were the Nebraska Lottery IMCA Modifieds. Nate Thompson’s 3T, the 8A of Dustin Andersen, Jaxon Saathoff’s 96 and Aaron Pella in the 3A were the first four back to the flag stand on lap 1. Lap saw Bob Zoubek put the 5S into fourth. 4 laps later Andersen took over the top spot with Zoubek moving to third. Clint Homan cracked the top four the next time around in the 27. Zoubek took over second with 10 to go. Homan advanced to third 4 laps later and moved to second 2 laps later. The final change in the top 4 came with 2 laps left when Saathoff got back up to fourth. It was Andersen, Homan, Zoubek and Saathoff.

This was Dustin’s first win of the year, coming on only his second night at Eagle. “It feels pretty good! It feels just like riding a bike. Get back in the car and get ‘er done. It seems like last year was the same as this year. We went out the first night and spun a bearing in the motor and couldn’t race the feature, then last week we came out and blew a gear up in the feature. Then we came out tonight and won. It’s easier when you start on the front row, but it is what it is” he said. Dustin’s sponsors include Nebraska’s Best Lawn and Landscape, Flat Foot Trucking, Overtime Diesel, Razor Chassis and Southern Transport.

The Modern Real Estate IMCA Sportmod finale was next on the high banks. Steffen Oaks led the first lap in his 73 followed by the 44 of McLain Reed, Joe Feyen’s 25X and Tyler Nerud’s 5T. Trevor Noonan passed Nerud in the #66 the following lap but lost the spot back to Nerud on lap 7. Gary Saathoff spun the 96 in 1 and 2 with 10 to go for a caution period. Feyen advanced to second on the restart. Scott Bivens cracked the top 4 in the S56 the next lap but lost the spot to Noonan the following circuit. Noonan moved to third with 5 circuits remaining as Reed took the fourth spot. Cole Wayman got past Reed the next time around in the 18W. Feyen grabbed the lead on the last lap for the win with Oaks second, Noonan third and Wayman fourth.

Joe related “It took a little longer to get out front, but once I got to second place I felt pretty comfortable. The car was working good. I felt as long as I kept out of trouble I would do pretty good. I want to thank my wife, my boy Bodie for helping on the car and my father-in-law; he’s my main guy”. Joe’s sponsors include Top Quality Construction, BTI Security, Precise Lawns, Nick’s Lawn Care, Anderson Print Group, Jet Racing and BCI Construction.

To round out the evening’s racing, the Duros Dent Works IMCA Racesaver Sprints rolled out for their A Feature. Ryan King in the 93 led lap 1 followed by the 20D of Jacob Dye, the 22D of Dan Nekolite and Gene Ackland in the 14G. Trevor Grossenbacher flipped the 35 in turn 4 and Ackland headed to the pits before coming back to the racing surface. Stu Snyder leaped the 5 into third on the restart. Tyler Drueke took his 12 into fourth on lap 7. The next circuit saw Dye loop it in turn 3 and head off on the hook. Nekolite got past King for the lead on the restart with Snyder moving to second. Drueke advanced to third the next time around and Snyder grabbed the lead the following circuit. Lap 12 saw Drueke move up to second. There were 9 laps to go when Brandon Horton flipped the 1B in turn 4 and the red lights came on in the corners. After being restarted Drueke lost the right front wheel from his sprint and had to retire. That made the running order Snyder, Nekolite, King and the 14J of Josh Riggins. Riggins moved up to third on the restart with the 47 of Cody Ledger taking over the 4th spot. The final top 4 were Snyder, Nekolite, Riggins and Ledger.

Stu’s victory was his second in a row after starting fourth row outside. He began his interview by stating “First off I have to give a big hand to the Eagle Raceway track prep crew, Roger Hadan and his crew because he could have thrown the towel in on this deal. I kind of thought when we got here that he should have, but it played out pretty good! It was a technical track. It was up on the wheel and wide open!! I didn’t know how far I was out front after I got there and then I saw that the 12 was running second. I knew there was a lapped car in between us because I was trying to pass the lappers as quick as I could to put them in between me and Drueke because on this type of track if you make one mistake and you’re going to eat up a whole straightaway lead. I was trying to be smooth and yet be as aggressive as I could be and as hard on the gas as I could be. Then it came over the radio that Tyler’s tire came off. I’m not sure what happened there, but I feel for them too. It was just one of those nights again where everything clicked when we rolled it out of the trailer”. Stu’s sponsors include Meyers Racing Engines, Momentum Racing Suspensions, JR1 Chassis, KRL Motorsports, HoZby Power, Robin LePage, KED Trucking, Mister Yards and More, Keizer Wheels and Simpson Racing Products.

Next weekend is Freedom Fest presented by Pepsi and 1 Iron Works with a huge fireworks display after the last feature. Front gates open at 5:00. Adult admission is $15, youths 6 to 12 and $5 and children 5 and under are free.
