Richards, Zoubek, Jackson, Grabouski & Danley are victorious at Eagle Raceway’s Fan Appreciation Night!

by Greg Soukup

A very large crowd filed through the front gates Saturday at Eagle Raceway for Fan Appreciation Night, presented by Avid Realty and Pepsi. They were greeted by lots of clouds, LOTS of humidity and a slight breeze, as well as  133 cars in the pits. The track provided 3-wide action through to the A Mains. The temperatures dropped from mid-80’s to mid-70’s by feature time as a cold front moved in, providing a beautiful night with a cooling north breeze.

The only serious incident in the preliminary action came in the first heat for the Twin Rivers IMCA Racesaver Sprints as Shayle Bade made contact with another car and ended up flipping in turns 1 and 2. She was not seriously injured and had her car repaired in time for the B Main where she advanced to the A.

Dylan Haney put the 12X out front of the A1 Iron IMCA Stock Feature with the 34 of Max Harder, Bob Ruisinger’s 7 and the 22 of Nick Beckman rounding out the top 4. Deven Schelm passed Beckman on lap 2, putting the 51 into fourth. Beckman spun in turn 4 the next lap for a caution. Harder snagged the lead on the restart with Schelm taking third. Nate Thompson took fourth the next lap in the 3T with Haney regaining the lead. Harder again got past Haney for the point after another circuit. The next time around Jordan Grabouski put the 30 into fourth and moved to third after another lap with Kyle Vanover moving to fourth in the 19. Beckman again looped it with 8 to go, this time in 3 & 4.Grabouski took advantage of the restart to move to second and grabbed the lead 2 laps later. The final change in the top 4 came the next circuit as Cade Richards put the 1R in fourth. The final top 4 were Grabouski, Harder, Vanover and Richards.

Jordan stated “I really love racing at Eagle! Especially on a night like this with the stand full of fans. Hats off to Roger for giving us such an awesome place to come to. I really owe a huge thanks to my crew and family, plus Twin Rivers.”. Jordan’s sponsors include Twin Rivers, Friesen Chevrolet, CBD Racing Shocks, Kaiser Manufacturing, GRT Race Cars, Mook Trucking, Wojo Painting, Sybesma Graphics, Stone Oilfield Service, Hergott Farms, Performance Bodies and Dirt Defender.

The Avid Realty IMCA Sportmods rolled out for their A and Mike Scheinost led lap 1 in the 51 with Shawn Pospisil’s 6SJ second, Breanna Pfansteil third in the 33B and Scott Bivens’ S56 fourth. Pospisil took over the lead on lap 2. Bivens moved to third the next lap with Noah Williams putting the 27W into fourth place. Cade Richards passed Williams the next circuit in the 1R. Bivens moved to second the following lap. Richards passed Bivens the next time around for second as Arie Schouten put the 99RE into fourth. Lap 9 saw Schouten advanced to third with Williams retaking the fourth spot the following lap. Richards took the lead with 8 to go. Schouten moved to second with 5 to go, making the top 4 Richards, Schouten,

I asked Cade why he had moved from an A Mod to the Sportmod. He told me “The crate motor in the A Mod blew up on us in Columbus. We put the B Mod motor in it and ran the A Mod with that, but I was running like 8th all of the time and we figured it was more cost effective to run the B Mod. I made that decision and I’ll just save up for another A Mod motor. I think we’re getting pretty close to that. I really believe that it was a good decision for our team to move down and was the best move for our team. Tonight was a really good night for us. The Sportmod has been running great and I got down to the bottom really before anybody else. That move got me to the front and was working great and we had the perfect set-up for the bottom. Just an awesome night for us”. Cade’s sponsors include Jones Racing Products, Tilton Engineering, CP-Carrillo, J & K Trucking Jeff Stefonick, SCAT Crankshafts, Bob Harris Enterprises, The Lincoln Capital Group, Jet Racing, Roto Reef, Subway of 27th & I-80 and 27th & Superior, Subway of Columbus & David City, Jen Cook Enterprises, Unified Employee Benefits, JAZ Products, Subway of Norfolk & Pierce, McLaughlin Masonry, Dynamic Drivelines, Raw Materials, Race Tech Info, Wehrs Machine & Racing Products, QualCast LLC, Cliff Thingstad Trucking, Filley Custom Powder Coating, Extreme Motorsports Decal Signs, Subway of West Point, Pender, & Tekamah, Subway of Beatrice, Tecumseh, & Auburn, Swift Springs, PRO CUT TIRES, Kosmos Racing, College View Auto Sales, X Factor Motorsports, CRR Technology and Richards Machine.

Lap 1 for the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks was led by Nick Shannon’s 7S followed by Mike Steier in the 87, Tanner Dowty’s 7T and Ben Becher. Dave Carter looped the 2C in turn 2 the next lap. Kyle Gannon lost a tire off of the 66G on the restart and the action slowed again. Dowty took to the infield on the restart putting the 13T of Tyler Jackson into fourth. Dillon Richards’ 24R slowed in turns 1 and 2 for another caution. Steier made contact with the front stretch wall, allowing Brad Schreiner to put the #10 into fourth. Fletcher Petersen spun his 10C in turn 4 the next lap for another caution moving Don Hall Jr. to fourth in the 92. On the restart Drew Barry passed Hall Jr. for fourth in the 6B. Neil Pella too the spot from Barry the next circuit in his 3N. Becher advanced to second when another lap was in the books. Ryan Gilland put the 46 into fourth with 8 to go. Pella spun out in turn 4 the following lap. At that time, it was Shannon, Jackson, Barry and Becher leading the field. Jackson moved to first on the restart with Gilland jumping up to second the next lap. Barry moved up to third with 4 laps remaining. The yellow flag flew the next lap for a debris caution. The final change in the top 4 came on the final circuit when Richards vaulted up to second making the final top 4 Jackson, Richards, Gilland and Becher.

This was Jackson’s first Eagle Raceway this season. Tyler stated “I got kind of a rough start at the beginning of the feature. I got into another car; I didn’t mean to do it and I apologized to him a couple of times. After that, the car was perfect, I just had to be sure I kept it perfect”.

Next up was the finale for the Nebraska Lottery IMCA Modifieds with lap 1 being led by the 3A of Aaron Pella with Bob Zoubek’s 5S, Mike Densberger in the 81 and the 60IV of Anthony Roth in hot pursuit. Nate Thompson passed Roth for fourth in the 3T the next time around as Zoubek grabbed the lead. Shawn Harker looped the #40 on the back stretch for a caution. Pella regained the lead on the restart before losing it back to Zoubek on lap 6 as Roth retook fourth. Densberger passed Pella for second the next time around. Roth also got past Pella for third the following circuit. Thompson regained the fourth spot with 9 to go but lost the position to John Saathoff’s 96J the next lap. Norm Ziegenbein spun the 1X in turn 1 with 1 to go. Thompson passed Saathoff on the restart. The final top 4 were Zoubek, Densberger, Roth and Thompson.

I mentioned to Bob that last season and this year have been bad ones for him. He said “It’s been bad. When you’ve raced as long as I have you start to ask yourself ‘Am I ever going to win again?’. Then you have a night like this and wonder ‘Will I ever win again??’. Tonight it all came together. I run an open motor and Roger gave me a perfect track to my liking. I started second row outside, moved to second on the start and grabbed the lead the next lap. All I had to do was hit my marks and hold them off”. Bob’s sponsors include Klein Construction, Goldfuss Racing and Fab, Kremer Storage, Pracheil Farms, Complete Ag, Noonan Enterprises LLC., Mahloch Motorsports, Schweitzer Farms, Behrens Family Sweet Corn, Kohmetscher Roofing and Olson Graphics.

The Twin Rivers IMCA Racesaver Sprints moved back to their usual spot in the running order to round out the night. Maxwell Roseland looped the #84 in turns 1 and 2 to stall the action before it could start and went off on the hook. When a lap was officially in the books Nate Weiler’s 4W, the 25G of Gunnar Pike, Clint Benson in the 100 and the 4L of Mike Houseman Jr. were the first four back to the flag stand. Ty Ledger looped his 35L in turn 4 on lap 2, collecting the 14J of Josh Riggins, Gene Ackland’s 14G and Toby Chapman’s 11. Joey Danley moved to 4th in the #14 on the restart and advanced to third on lap 6. Joey advanced another spot to 2nd the following lap. He managed to pass Weiler for the lead with 15 to go. Adam Gullion put the 91 into fourth the following circuit and advanced to third on ap 13 with Jason Danley putting the 4X into fourth. Jason took the third spot the next time around. Ledger again spun out in turn 4 with 5 circuits remaining. The top 4 remained unchanged to the checkers with Joey Danley winning, Weiler second, Jason Danley third and Gullion fourth.

Joey’s last win was 6/18 of this year but has numerous victories this season. “We’ve been a little off lately, so we kind of threw something at the car this week and it worked. It’s nice to be back in the winner’s circle”. Joey’s sponsors include Empire Fence, The Wave, My Salesman, Nissen Hardwood Floors, Automotive Services and Onyx Digital Group.
