By Greg Soukup Sunny, warm and humid was the weather that greeted a large crowd as they celebrated Christmas in July under at Eagle Raceway Saturday. Several divisions of the Armed Forces were in attendance to assist in collecting donations for the Toys for Tots campaign. The preliminary events went with no major occurrences. The NAPA IMCA Sport Modifieds were the first Main Event on the evening, and Cory Hutchison was the first back to the flag stand in his 96C. Close behind were Don Rinke’s 2R, the3T of Nate Thompson and Kevin Anderson in the 22K. Anderson vaulted past both Thompson and Rinke on lap 2 to take the 2nd spot. By Greg Soukup Given a reprieve by Mother Nature this week with no rain on Friday evening, Eagle Raceway’s crack track prep crew gave the racers what may have been the best racing surface of the year and the fans were treated to fantastic competition throughout Crash Bash Night presented by Colby Ridge and the Nebraska Lottery. But, the track prep crew worked long and hard and racing went on at Freedom Fest presented by Jack Daniels Saturday evening. In the end, the weather benefited the festivities as several visitors stopped by “America’s Home Track” after their usual tracks were rained out. Night at Eagle Raceway Saturday night, presented by Bud Light and Ball Park started under cloudy skies but by the time racing began the large crowd was graced with sun and great competition. The preliminary events were run without serious incident. by Greg Soukup As if to apologize for causing the previous night’s racing to be cancelled, Mother Nature gave racers and fans at Eagle Raceway a picture-perfect night for the second evening of the Eagle Nationals presented by TBJ Promotions Saturday evening. The only significant incident in the preliminary competition came in the 4th heat of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Series sprints when Jeff Osborn flipped his car in turn 1. Osborn also rolled his sprinter in the first B Feature.
