By Greg Soukup The 2011 Nebraska Cup-9/11 Tribute presented by the Nebraska Lottery, provided everything that you could ask for in a season finale for “America’s Home Track” Eagle Raceway. Sunny skies, temperatures in the mid-80’s and a great crowd were all in place for the great competition that would end the racing year at the track. 40 sprints, including many of the National Lucas Oil ASCS 360 Sprint Car competitors, 27 IMCA A Modifieds including several visitors who chose to stop in after racing in the IMCA Nationals and 27 IMCA Sport Compacts provided the type of racing that will hopefully hold everyone over the long winter until spring comes back around. By Greg Soukup Fall weather came early and greeted the estimated 10,000 fans who showed up for the Eagle Shootout presented by Coors Light Sunday evening at Eagle Raceway with unseasonably cool temperatures. After several inches of rain mid-week the skies were sunny, the action was fantastic and the stands were packed. The only significant incident in the preliminary events came when Mark Schmidt flipped his 9J sprinter in the second Budweiser 360 Sprint qualifier. Schmidt was uninjured. Joey Danley’s #14 was in the lead of lap #1 of the NAPA IMCA Sport Modified A Feature followed by Nelson Vollbrecht in the 11X, Jason Harms’ 17A and the 96 of Gary Saathoff. By Greg Soukup Almost perfect weather for the second week in a row greeted the large crowd who came out to Eagle Raceway Saturday night for the Cornhead Classic presented by Pepsi. The season points finale saw fabulous racing as the points champions were crowned in all 5 classes. All preliminary results were run without serious incidents. The NAPA IMCA Sport Modified Feature’s first lap saw a HUGE pileup in turn 4 with several cars caught up in it. The restart saw Lindsey Yost’s #20 in the lead with the K00 of Joe Schidler, Nate Thompson in the 3T and Roger Harpster’s 88 close behind. Todd Sanford cracked the top 4 on lap 2 in the 7R.
