Moms Rock ‘n Roll All Night wins go to Roth, Armstrong, Densberger, Pavey III and Gullion

By Greg Soukup

The “Moms Rock ‘n Roll All Night” event at Eagle Raceway Saturday saw a sparse crowd, due to the threat of rain that never came about. The cool temperatures made for great racing throughout the night.

The only serious incident in the preliminary racing came at the start of the B Feature for the Precise Racing IMCA Racesaver Sprints. As the pack entered turn 1 a car got loose. The result was that the 03 of Shayle Bade and Blain Petersen in the 68+1 ended up rolling over. Both drivers were fine, but their racers were done for the night.

The first A Main was for the NAPA IMCA Sport Modifieds and saw Sean Manning take the X52 back to the flag stand first on lap #1 with the 96H of James Hines, and Ken Eckhoff’s 5 close behind. Lap 2 saw Kevin Anderson jump up to the third spot in the 22K before moving up to second the next time around as Gary Saathoff’s 96 took over third and Trent Roth’s 14T moved into fourth. 2 laps later Anderson grabbed the lead and Roth moved to third. Roth advanced to second on lap 10. Jeremy Peckham looped the 13P in turn 4 on lap 11 for a caution. Roth took advantage of the restart to grab the lead. Hines retook the third spot the next time around. With 7 laps remaining Shaw Harker spun the 40 in turn 4. Dion Kovar’s 18 and the 33 of Jeremy Noonan got together on the front stretch to light the yellow lights again. Manning regained the third position on the restart. Benji Legg passed Manning the next circuit to put his 25B in third and took second from Anderson with 2 to go as Mark Leiting moved into fourth in the 20M. The final top four were Roth, Legg, Anderson and Leiting.

“Once I got out front from my starting position in 9th I just had to be patient. I had a good car and the track was nice and smooth. I just wanted to get through the traffic and hold on. Special thanks to my mom and dad for making it possible for me to race, and to my pit crew for all of their help” Roth stated. Roth’s sponsors include Lee Ann Farms, Razor Chassis, R & R Sandblasting and Painting, Ziebart and Cuba Construction.

Next the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks came out onto the track. Sydney Yost’s 20, the 5 of Chris Klein, Kyle Gannon in the 66G and Justin Busboom’s 62 were the top four at the end of lap 1. Chad Bassinger passed Busboom on lap 2 and the 4X was in fourth. The next lap Yost got loose, causing Charlie Bartels’ 9R and Bassinger to get together and stop on the backstretch. Both cars headed to the pits. That made the top 4 Klein, Gannon, Busboom and the 16T of Tyler Saathoff. Adam Armstrong moved the 6A to fourth with 14 laps left and moved into third the next time around. Armstrong moved to second and Busboom again took over fourth with 10 laps remaining. Armstrong head to the pit 2 laps later as his father Roy Armstrong moved into third. Roy Armstrong grabbed the lead with 7 circuits left. Chad Fegley jumped into third the next lap in his #13F. Travis Albracht cracked the top 4 with the 38A as Fegley moved to second. Klein went very high in turn 1 the next lap, stopped and was towed to the pits. That made the top 3 Roy Armstrong, Gannon and Fegley. Fegley passed Gannon for second on the restart. The final slowing of the action in the race came with 3 to go as Don Hall’s 92 blew his engine and spun in turn 3. The top 4 ended up Roy Armstrong, Fegley, Albracht and Gannon.

“I want to thank Roger and Michelle for taking a chance and having the race tonight despite the chance of rain and for giving us a great track. Also to my girlfriend Jo and my sister Bonnie, plus my pit crew John” Roy said. Armstrong’s sponsors include Hummer Construction and Neapco.

Mike Densberger got a good jump at the start to put the 81 out front of the Kaplan University IMCA Modified A the Mike Lineberry’s 72, the 33Z of Bob Zoubek and Nathan Landauer’s 11N rounding out the top 4. Josh True’s 2T stopped in turn 4 on lap 2. Zoubek moved into second on lap 6 with Jordan Grabouski taking 4th in the 30 the next lap. Grabouski advanced to third the next circuit with Chad Andersen’s 8C moving to fourth. Lap 11 saw Grabouski pass Lineberry to snag second. Lineberry and the 4X of Kevin Larkins came to a halt at the bottom of turn 4 on lap 15. Andersen took over 3rd with three to go making the final top 4 Densberger, Grabouski, Andersen and Zoubek.

“The track was awesome tonight; a little slick just the way I like it. This was my first win here this year and that’s always nice. I want to thank Mom for all she does for me, and wish her happy Mother’s Day” he related. Densberger’s sponsors include Steve Miller (car owner), Jet Racing, Craig Gana, Mike and Lisa Gocke, Jay Burdic with Malvern Bank, Harris Decals, Elliot’s Custom Trailers, Neemann Refuse, Adamz K9 Cleanup, Race FeedX and Dirt Defender.

The Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Compact feature had Kevin Fearing’s 48, Spencer Pavey III’s 32, the 10K of Kyle Owen and Steven Rol’s 33 out front. Pavey took the lead on lap 3 with Owen moving to second. Melissa Cronin put the 5M into fourth on lap 9 but gave the position up to Tim Horsham in the 3 with just 3 circuits left. The final top 4 were Pavey III, Owen, Fearing and Horsham.

This is just Pavey’s second year in the sport compacts, but he did win the Rookie of the Year at Eagle last season. “I got out front and just held it to the floor. The track was great tonight, with lots of traction. I need to thank everyone who makes it possible for me to race. I also want to throw in a ‘WOOOO!!’. I want to dedicate this to my sister Rachelle who just graduated and to my sister Kendra who just had a baby” Pavey related. Pavey’s sponsors include S & K Services, TDK Lawn Care, Scott Place, The Voice newspaper, Brenning Painting, Louis Pavey and Dale Barnes.

The final contest of the evening was for the Precise Racing IMCA Racesaver sprint cars. Gene Ackland held the lead at the end of lap 1 in his 14G with Adam Gullion’s 91, the 77D of Keith Dragoo and Doug Lovegrove in the 1 hot on his push bumper. Mike Boston passed Lovegrove on lap 3 to put the 51 in fourth and then got past Dragoo the next time around for third. Ryan King went too high in turn 1 and ended up rolling the 93 causing the red lights to be turned on. King was not seriously hurt. Lovegrove regained fourth on the restart with Gullion taking first the next time around. Boston jumped into second on lap 9. Jason Martin’s 5X suffered a flat and the yellow flag flew the next lap. Lovegrove moved into third 2 laps after the restart. 1 more lap was in the books when Tyler Drueke’s 12 lost the right rear on the front stretch. Trevor Grossenbacher’s 35 took over fourth on the restart and moved into third on lap 13 then second shortly after that. Grossenbacher put a daring slide on Gullion in turns 3 & 4 to take the lead with 5 to go, but Mike Boston got into turns 3 & 4 too hard and hit the wall very hard for the final stoppage of action in the race. Try as he might, Grossenbacher could not pass Gullion again in the waning laps and Gullion took home the win with Grossenbacher second, Lovegrove third and Terry Richards’ 18 fourth.

“After that second flag my guys told me to get off of the bottom, so I moved to the cushion. Then I just tried to stay stable and hit my marks. After Trev slid me and we had that red, I was told to stop letting off the throttle in 1, so I did and held on to win. We are trying some new things, even some shocks that aren’t even on the market yet” Gullion said. Gullion’s sponsors include Liquid Nitro, Pro Rolloffs, Precise Roofing, Engler, Fuel Safe and Rod End Supply.

Next weekend will be Rock On! Night, presented by Sam’s Club. There will be a Sam’s Club Candy Dash at intermission, with over 5,000 pieces of candy contended for on the front stretch. Sam’s Club will have a booth in the courtyard. Stop by to see how easy it is to sign up. The drink special all night will be Twisted Tea. The Precise Racing IMCA Racesaver sprints, Kaplan University IMCA Modifieds, NAPA IMCA Sport Modifieds, Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks and Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Compacts will be in action. Front gates open at 5:15 with hot laps at 5:30 and racing at 6:30. Adult front gate admission is $10, youths 6-12 are just $5 and children 5 and under are free.
