Junior Fan Club Night victories go to Harker, Roschewski, Larkins, Moyer and Boston

By Greg Soukup

Mother Nature was kind to the racers and fans at Eagle Raceway for the second week in a row as Junior Fan Club Night, presented by Colby Ridge, saw a very good crowd gather under sunny skies that turned into a beautiful breezy night.

The lone incident in the racing leading up to the feature happened when Gary Joens Jr. snap-rolled his race car in turn 4 in the NAPA IMCA Sport Modified B Feature. Joens Jr. was alright.

First up in the A Main line-up was the final race of the evening for the NAPA IMCA Sport Modifieds. The end of the first lap saw the 7 of Bob Ruisinger, Jason Harms in the 6H, Sean Manning in the X52 and Joe Feyen in the 25 out front. Lap 3 saw Joey Danley take the 14 into third and the 40 of Shawn Harker grabbed the fourth position. One of the racers hit the implement tire in turn 1 on lap 6 and moved it onto the racing surface to cause the caution flag to be thrown. Anthony Kobus’ 27 slowed on the backstretch on lap #8 for another caution. Harms used the restart to move past Ruisinger. The yellow flag was shown again on lap 9 for debris on the track. Ruisinger fell back to 5th on the restart as Harker jumped up to second, Danley took over third and Laini Schwartz moved to fourth in the 18. Schwartz passed Danley the next time around. The final change in the top four came when Harker got past Harms with just 2 laps remaining. Harker took the win with Harms in second, Schwartz took third and Danley settled for fourth.

This was Harker’s third win at the track. “This win was for my buddy Aaron Keene who is fighting cancer. I’ve been spending a lot of time with Aaron” Harker said. He continued by stating “I waited for 5 or 6 laps before making my move, I was just biding my time. The track was good and fast again tonight”. He finished by relating “I want to thank my wife Amy and kids, plus my crew for giving me a great car every week”. Harker’s sponsors include All American Painting, Liberty Safe, Tex Cattle and Midwest Custom Concrete.

The Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock Feature saw Ryan Roschewski’s 2R in the lead of lap 1 followed by the 42 of Rob Brown, Travis Albracht in the 38A and Mark McKinney’s 23. McKinney passed Albracht on lap 2 and RJ Macku also got his 93 around Albracht the next time around. Macku advanced another spot on lap 5 as he took third from McKinney before grabbing second on lap 8. The next lap McKinney spun in turn four. That made the top four Roschewski, Macku, Brown and the 6R of Roy Armstrong. Armstrong and John Cain’s 44 both passed Brown on lap 19 to move into third and fourth. Armstrong suffered a flat right rear tire on lap 13, moving Cain to third and Brown to fourth. The final position change in the top 4 came when Derek Fralin moved his #1 into fourth. At the checkers it was Roschewski, Macku, Cain and Fralin.

This was Roschewski’s first win at Eagle. “The car was loose, so I just stayed calm and ran my race” he related. He concluded the interview by saying “I want to thank the people who help me; my brother Eric, Dan Warner, Rich Erb, Jake Waldron and Doug Warnsing”. Ryan’s sponsors include Char’s Daycare, Jim’s Carpet, Hulf Body Shop, Mom’s Eggrolls, Terry’s Steakhouse, Karma Production, Cleanworkshop.com, Fossler Farms, Oak Haven, Hadorn Trucking, R & D Barbers, Bonnie’s Daycare, Smiths and Big Johnson Chassis.

The Kaplan University IMCA Modifieds were up next. The yellow flag was brought out on lap #1 when Mike Densberger spun his #81 in turn 3, collecting the 95 of Dylan Smith. When an official lap was completed the 22J of Justin Jurgens led with Kevin Larkins second in the 4X, Justin Wulf’s 86 third and the 5S of Bob Zoubek fourth. Jurgens spun in 3 & 4 the second lap, putting the 8C of Chad Andersen in fourth. Larkins went very high on the restart and Zoubek took the lead over Wulf and Roger “Chevy” Hadan moved his #4 into fourth. Andersen and Hadan swapped the fourth spot the next two laps. Larkins moved under Zoubek for the lead on lap 9 as Chris Ableson vaulted the 1X into third putting Wulf in fourth. Hadan retook fourth on lap 12 for the final position change in the top four. It was Larkins with the win, Zoubek second, Ableson third and Hadan fourth.

This was Larkins first win at Eagle since 2006. “I think I’ve only raced like 6 times in the last 5 years, so I’m happy with a first and a second here this year” Larkins stated. He continued by saying “I’ve always enjoyed racing Eagle, and it was fun to come back. Thanks to Roger for keeping the place going. I sure can’t complain about the track, because there’s no place better for modified racing”. He finished by relating “Thanks also to Kathy and Kevin, my car owners”. Kevin’s sponsors include Speedway Motors, Afco Shocks and Skytop Towers.

The Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Compacts then rolled out for their A Main. James King’s 13, the 48J of Nickalaus Jensen, Melissa Cronin in the 5M and Amanda Rhiley’s 51 led the field at the end of the first lap. Rhiley moved past Cronin on lap 4 and Matt Moyer also got past Cronin in his #29 to take fourth. The next time around Kurt Beckstrom’s 82B slowed in turns 1 & 2 to bring out a caution. Moyer and Rhiley swapped the third spot on laps 6 & 7. Lap 8 saw Rhiley and Moyer move up to second and third, then the pair took first and second on lap 11. Moyer took the lead for good on the next circuit. Kenny Roberts moved his #69 into fourth with 3 to go. The final top four were Moyer, Rhiley, King and Roberts.

Matt related “I’ve got to thank my wife for letting me come out and play. Also Roger for giving us a great smooth track to race on, and last thanks to ‘Team Get Some’. They all make it possible to do this”. Moyer’s sponsors include General Siding, Luddemann Construction, Kinnersley Grading and Scott Angel with the Design Shop.

The Budweiser IMCA Racesaver Sprint Car Feature concluded the racing action. Nick Bryan’s 52, the 44 of Matt Richards, Lee Bowes in the 73 and the 14G of Gene Ackland were the first four back to the flag stand at the end of lap 1. Ackland moved to third on lap 2 with Mike Boston’s 51 also getting past Bowes the next circuit. 2 more laps were in the books when Ackland moved up to second. Lap 8 saw Nate Weiler loop the #14 in turn 2. Boston moved up to third on the restart before vaulting to the lead the next lap. Ackland moved up to second the next time around. Shayle Bade spun the 03 in turn 2 with 12 laps left. At that time the top 4 were Boston, Ackland, Bryan and Richards. 1 lap after the restart Bowes stopped in turn 2. Richards took 1 lap after that restart to take the third spot before giving the position to Clint Benson’s #100 the next circuit. Weiler spun in turn 2 again with 6 to go. At the finish it was Boston, Ackland, Benson and Richards.

“I’m really enjoying this new Racesaver class” Boston said. “I was skeptical to begin with, but now I think it’s going to be great” he continued. Finally, Boston said “Thanks to Roger for the good, smooth track again this week. 2 lines of racing makes it fun for everyone. Also to Woods Performance for talking me into coming out and trying the 305’s”. Mike’s sponsors include Moock Trucking, Johnson Farms and Woods Performance”.
