Warm sunny weather returned to Eagle Raceway Saturday night for Boot Scootin’ Dirt Night, presented by NAPA and Kaplan University. The very large crowd that turned out for the racing action at America’s Home Track were treated to that and more during the evening.

Bob Dvorak flipped in turns 3 & 4 of the Mud In America Racesaver IMCA Sprint Car B Feature for the sole serious occurrence during the preliminary events.

The first lap of the NAPA IMCA Sport Modified A Feature saw Jason Trent’s 67D out front followed by Jared Cote’s 57, the 6H of Jason Harms and Adam Vrbka’s 7V. Vrbka jumped up to second on lap 2 and Benji Legg put the 25B into fourth the next lap. Vrbka grabbed the lead, Harker took over second Legg moved up to third and Gary Saathoff advanced the #96 to fourth on lap 4. Mary Lenz’s 17 spun in turn 2 the next circuit for a caution. Legg passed Harker for second on the restart but gave the position back the next lap. Harker took the lead before they got back to the flag stand again and Legg moved up to second but Mike Scheinost’s M51 spun in turn 1 and the yellow lights were lit again. Harker took over the lead on lap 9. Lap 10 saw Vrbka and the 18 of Dion Kovar spin in turn 1. That made the top 4 Harker, Legg, Saathoff and the 52 of Sean Manning. Lap 11 saw Joe Schidler put the K00 into fourth but Manning got back by him the next time around. Saathoff got by Legg with 5 to go and Legg dropped out with a flat tire with just 3 left. That made the final top 4 Harker, Saarthoff, Manning and Schidler.

This was Harker’s first 2014 victory at Eagle, despite 5 second place finishes. “I picked my line and stuck with it. I was happy with my car tonight. After we took off the new parts we put on this year and went back with last year’s stuff the car seemed to come to life. I need to thank my dad Alan, Travis Lotter, Brian Purchase and Ron Tex” Harker stated. Harker’s sponsors include Friesen Chevrolet Performance, Woods Performance & Machine, Tex Cattle and JDR Performance Carbs.

Next was the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock Feature. Tyler Saathoff’s 16T spun in turn 2 on the first lap. Ryan Roschewski’s 2R got sideways on the front stretch of the restart, causing a huge pile-up that saw Troy Dowty’s 17T roll onto it’s side. The incident also collected the 23 of Mark McKinney, Jacob Harms’ 6J and Tim LaPointe’s 18. When a lap was officially completed Russ Specht’s 26X, RJ Macku’s 93, the 22 of Nick Beckman and Justin Busboom in the 62 were the top 4. Thom Marsh looped the 93M on lap 4 in turn 2 to slow the action again. Macku used the restart to pass Specht for the lead and Beckman followed a lap later, taking over second. Rob Brown’s 42 stopped on the front stretch the next time around for yet another caution. Busboom moved up to third 1 lap after the restart. Busbooom lost the spot to Specht 2 laps later but retook the position with 10 to go. There were 6 laps left when Beckman grabbed the lead from Macku, Busboom advanced to third and John Cain put the #44 into fourth. At the finish it was Beckman, Macku, Busboom and Cain. However Macku was disqualified for the evening. That put the #27 of Jason Kohl into fourth.

This was 2 in a row for Beckman. “The track was amazing tonight. I want to thank everyone who helps me out, but especially Jason Applebee for sticking with me when I didn’t think I could do this anymore. Also my family and friends, because without them I wouldn’t be here. Last, thanks to Roger for giving us a track to race on every week” Beckman said. Beckman’s sponsors include SPYDER Race Cars, J & N Technologies, The Beverage Connection, D-Sign Shop, Blind Spot Race Shops and Performance 66.

Chad Andersen’s 8C, the 3A of Aaron Pella, Rik Gropp’s V45 and the Justin Wulf in the 86 were the first four back to the flag stand on lap 1 of the Kaplan University IMCA Modified A. Pella dropped to fourth on lap 2, putting Gropp and Wulf second and third. Mike Densberger got past Pella the next time around but Trevor Baker’s 25! spun in turn 2. That made the top 4 Andersen, Gropp, Wulf and Bob Zoubek’s 5S after Pella was put back 2 spots. Pella made hard contact with the front stretch wall on lap 4 and retired to the pits. Wulf took advantage of the restart to move up to second. Zoubek moved up to third the next time around and Clint Homan also passed Gropp on lap 7. The 02JR of Chris Mills spun in turn 2 on lap 10 and the yellow lights were turned on again. At that time it was Andersen, Wulf, Zoubek and Homan. Zoubek moved to second on lap 11. Baker spun again on lap 12 in turns 1 & 2. Zoubek grabbed the lead on the restart with Homan taking over third. Roger “Chevy” Hadan cracked the top 4 on lap 15 in his #4 and moved up to third the next lap. The finishing order showed Zoubek winning, Andersen second, Hadan third and Homan fourth.

Zoubek’s win came after starting in the 5th position. “I got a good start and just picked my was forward from there. The track was smoother this week after not much rain, but it did turn slick. Some cautions came at the right time for me and that really helped” related Zoubek. Zoubek’s sponsors include Kahle Trucking, Kramer Storage and Investment Properties, Gropp Trucking and Pracheil Farms.

Next the Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Compact took their turn on the high banks. RJ Maas’ 88K led lap 1. Lap 2 saw Ramsey Meyer jump all the way up to second in the 2R. Matt Moyer put the 29 into third on lap 3. Lap 6 saw Meyer take over the lead and Moyer followed him into second the next time around. James King moved the 13 into fourth on lap 11 before moving up to third with 2 to go. The top 4 ended up Meyer, Moyer, King and Maas.

This was Meyers’ first victory at Eagle this year after winning the national championship last season. “We always enjoy coming to Eagle, because it’s always a great show. We know all of the drivers names, and this way we get to put faces with the names. It’s just such a fun atmosphere here” stated Meyers. Meyers’ sponsors include Taylor’s Bar and Grill, Brian Harbottle, Norfolk Transmission and Muffler, Tom’s Service and Walton Appliance.

The Mud In America Racesaver IMCA Sprint Cars were the finale of the evening. Brandon Horton in the 1B was the leader after the first lap with Dwight Carter’s 4U, the 57X of Mark Pace and the 9D of Neil Dvorak in hot pursuit. Adam Gullion put the 91 into fourth on lap 2 and Pace moved up to second the next lap. Terry Richards took over the third spot in his 18 on lap 4 and Gullion again moved to fourth the next time around. Richards moved to second on lap 7 before grabbing the lead the next time around as Gullion moved up to third. Gullion advanced to second the next lap with Jason Martin’s 5X taking fourth. Martin moved up to third the next time around. Lap 10 saw Clint Benson’s 100 spin in turn 2. At that time it was Richards, Gullion, Martin and Horton the top 4. Mike Boston passed Horton on the restart to put the 51 into fourth. Nick Bryan spun the 52 in turn 4 the next time around for the first caution of the race. Gullion used the restart to take the lead only to give it back on lap 14 as both Richards and Martin passed him. Boston stopped at the top of turns 3 & 4 with 10 laps remaining after contact with Gullion the previous lap. That moved the 14 of Joey Danley into fourth. Gullion grabbed the lead on the restart, only to be shuffled back to third the next lap as both Richards and Martin passed him. Martin took over the lead the next lap as Gullion moved to second. Eric Reichwaldt spun the 13 in turns 1 & 2 with 3 to go. Doug Lovegrove cracked the top four on the last lap, moving up to fourth. The final top 4 were Martin, Gullion, Richards and Lovegrove.
Martin said “I was really tight at the start, and I really didn’t think I’d get it done. But, the others kept racing each other and I just kept getting past them one at a time”. Martin’s sponsors include Midwest Linings and Trucks Plus.
