Hadan, Pike, Richards, Dover & Armstrong victorious at Kid’s Night!

By Greg Soukup

There was a great fan turnout for Kid’s Night, presented by Casey’s, Colby Ridge and Froggy 98 Saturday night at Eagle Raceway. The temperatures were high, but so were the spirits of 108 lucky boys and 108 fortunate girls who went home with brand new bikes; supplied by the racers, fans and Eagle Raceway.

All preliminary events went off without major incidents.

Terry Callender’s 5T was first back to the flag stand after 1 lap of the NAPA IMCA Sport Modified A Main event with Jeremy Noonan’s 33, the 31R of James Hines and Sean Manning in the X52 rounding out the top 4. Joe Schidler vaulted all of the way into 2nd the next time around in his K00 as Noonan grabbed the lead. Gunnar Pike put the 25 into third on lap 3 and Brian Ostantowski’s 999 took over fourth. Schidler grabbed the lead the next circuit. Pike took over second on lap 7 and Ostentowski moved to third after another lap. James Roebuck cracked the top 4 the next time around. Pike managed to pass Schidler with 5 laps to go. Ostentowski and Roebuck also got past Schidler in the closing laps to make the final top 4 Pike, Ostentowski, Roebuck and Schidler.

This was Pike’s initial victory at Eagle Raceway, and came from the inside of the 4th row on the starting grid. “It took me awhile to get close to the front, but when I saw Schidler I knew I had a chance. The track was nice and racy tonight, with 3 lines. I want to thank Mom, Dad and my girlfriend Nicole for helping me out with my racing” said Pike. Pike’s sponsors include Larson Motors, Interim Health Care, Sardeson Racing and Mark Goldfuss.

The first lap of the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock feature had Dave Carter’s 2C out front, Jeff Watts’ 66 second, the 55N of Luke Nicholson and Tim LaPointe in the 18 fourth. Brett Saathoff passed LaPointe on lap 2 to put the 11B into fourth. Watts moved to the lead the next lap as Saathoff took over third and the 67 of Damon Richards grabbed fourth. Richards took third the next circuit and the following lap Roy Armstrong put his 6R into fourth. Tyler Albracht spun the 37A on lap 7 for the first caution period of the features.  At that time the top 4 were Weeks, Carter, Armstrong and Richards. The restart saw Adam Armstrong jumped to third in his 6A. The next lap saw Carter pass Weeks. Adam Armstrong got past both Carter and Weeks to take the lead the next lap and Weeks held onto second. Lap 9 saw Roy Armstrong move to third. Richards again took the fourth position with 7 to go, but lost the spot back to Carter the next lap. Carter fell back in the closing laps, allowing Mark McKinney in the 23 and Richards to finish third and fourth. The final top 4 were Adam Armstrong, Roy Armstrong, McKinney and Richards.

This was Adam’s first win this season after being the track points leader last year, coming from the 12th starting position. ”It’s so great to come back to Eagle Raceway and pick up right where I left off last season. A great track, with 3 racing lines. It wasn’t easy, but when I got the lead towards the end of the race I knew I had to just hold on. Thanks to Mom, Dad and Denny for what they do for me” stated Armstrong. Armstrong’s sponsors include S & L Detailing, A First Rate Pumping Service, Icon Pistons, Scat Cranks, Ron Fox and Sons Motorsports and Hummer Contracting.

The Kaplan University IMCA Modified A had Jeff Schroyer’s 007, the 25! Of Trevor Baker, Justin Wulf in the 86 and Roger “Chevy” Hadan in the 4 out front of lap #1. Baker took the lead on lap 4 and Hadan moved to second. Hadan passed Baker 3 laps later for the lead. Chad Andersen jumped up to third the next time around and Wulf held fourth. Rik Gropp passed Wulf with 8 to go for third. 2 laps later Andersen moved to second but spun at the bottom of 3 and 4, making the top 4 Hadan, Baker, Gropp and Wulf. Nathan Landauer cracked the top 4 on the restart in his 11N and took third with 3 to go. Gropp retook third the next lap to make the final top 4 Hadan, Baker, Gropp and Landauer.

Hadan’s win was his first this season, coming from the 5th spot on the starting grid. “It could hardly have been better! The track was really good this week, but the cushion was a handful. I want to thank Rick and Steve, my crew, for their hard work to help me get this win” related Hadan. Hadan’s sponsors include Auto Transmatic, Black Foot Trucking, Accelerated Graphics and Enby Suspensions.

Amanda Rhiley’s 51, the 5H of Shawn Hein, Steffen Oaks in the 5X and Tommy Etherton’s 24T led lap 1 of the Mountain Dew Kick Start IMCA Sport Compact feature. Hein grabbed the lead on lap 3 as Matt Moyer moved to second, Etherton had the third spot and Rhiley was in fourth. Oaks moved back to third the next time around. The yellow lights were lit the next lap as the 2CS of Brian Haller and 2 others stopped at the top of turns 1 & 2. That made the top 4 Hein, Moyer, Oaks and Etherton. Dillon Richards passed Etherton on the restart to put the 24R into fourth and moved up to third the next circuit. Moyer took the lead with 6 to go as Scott Spellmeier put the 88S into fourth. 1 more lap saw Richards move to second and then grab the lead with 2 to go. Moyer made a valiant effort to retake the lead, but found his high line blocked by another car. The top 4 were Richards, Moyer, Hein and Spellmeier.

Richards left before being interviewed.

Chase Weiler’s 0 led lap 1 of the Racesaver IMCA Sprint Car main event with Ryan King’s 93, the 84 of Jack Dover and Matt Richards’ 1R rounding out the top 4. Dover snagged the lead on lap 2 as Richards moved to third. Richards advanced to second the next lap with King retaining third and Shon Pointer putting the 20P into fourth. Pointer passed King the next time around and Toby Chapman also got around Pointer after another lap to put the 7KX into fourth. King did a 360 degree spin in the infield of turn 2 on lap 12 to bring out a caution. After 1 failed restart, Stu Snyder put the 23S into fourth. Snyder moved up to third 2 laps later but Chapman went over a rear wheel of the 12 of Tyler Drueke and smacked the turn 4 wall and stopped. Snyder again moved to third on the restart and Jason Martin grabbed fourth the next lap. 1 more circuit was in the books when Snyder advanced to second. Martin moved up to third with 8 to go as Drueke took over fourth. From there to the finish the biggest battle was for second as Martin and Snyder battled back and forth for second with Martin prevailing and putting the pressure on Dover for the win. But, at the checkers it was Dover, Martin, Snyder and Drueke.

This win made Dover 2 for 3 at Eagle the last 3 weeks. “I want to thank Chris Roseland for giving me the chance to drive his car again. Also, thanks to Rick and Steve for their work on the car. I thought we had tightened the car up too much, but it ended up we should have gone even further. We’re trying to do a tune-up for the Racesaver IMCA Sprint Nationals and pushing to get better” stated Dover. Dover’s sponsors include Backlund Plumbing and Omaha WinWater Company.

Special Thanks to these Sponsors, Drivers and Volunteers that made Bike Night a great success!
