Drueke, Pike, Roth & Ware Celebrate wins at Party Time Tuesday

Drueke, Pike, Roth & Ware Celebrate wins at Party Time Tuesday

by Greg Soukup

Eagle Raceway, like so many dirt tracks this year has so far has had more than its fair share of rainouts. After having lost last week’s races to rain, Roger Hadan decided to use a contingency plan to allow both the fans and the racers to get their racing in. We all have missed way too many nights at the track, and with so few nights available anyway, this was a perfect solution.

The prospect of racing on Tuesday after a rain-out was proposed last year, but never was used. But this year, it was a necessity. Therefore, “Party Time Tuesday” was held last evening. Mother Nature tried to intrude again, sending a rain shower through the area in the afternoon, but the Eagle Raceway track prep crew prevailed in the end. Reduced grandstand admission and lowered prices on adult beverages and food greeted the fans.

Joey Danley went for a tumble in turns 3 & 4 of the second IMCA Racesaver Sprint Car heat. He was not seriously injured, but his mount was disable too severely to return to action.

In the Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Modified A Feature, the first two attempts at a start were called back. The first caution came when a 3-car pileup in turn four slowed the action and then the 2R of Jeremy Down looped it in turn 4 on the restart. Bobby Draper’s 62, the 17 of Mary Lenz, Mike Scheinost in the 51 and Joe Schidler’s K00 led the first official lap. Cole Wayman jumped the 18W all the way to third on lap 2 as Scheinost fell to fourth. Lenz passed Draper for the lead the next time around as Gunnar Pike put the 25 into fourth. Pike vaulted up to second 2 laps later. Joe Feyen spun in turn 4 with 8 to go for another caution period. On the restart Adam Vrbka moved his 7V into fourth. The next circuit saw the yellow lights lit in the corner again when a car spun out in turn 3. Wayman used the restart to get past Pike but lost the spot back to him the next lap. Pike passed Lenz for the lead the next time around and held on for the win. The top 4 were Pike, Lenz, Wayman and Vrbka.

Tonight marked the second win for Pike at Eagle Raceway this season. He related “We kind of haven’t been having the best of luck lately. It’s been a rough patch for us. We fell back a little in the points a little, letting Shawn take the lead but hopefully we can keep on digging. It all equals out though. You’re going to have good nights and bad nights; it just depends on when and where they happen. Tonight we finally had a little bit of luck, and I’d rather be lucky than good any day”. Pike’s sponsors include Larson Motors, Interim Health Care, Sardeson Racing, Taylored Computers, Grass Assassins and Custom Gun Solutions”.

The first lap of the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock A Main saw the 2B of Brooke Fluckiger, Tyler Jackson’s 13T, the 22 of Nick Beckman and Jeff Watts’ 66 out front. Watts moved to third on lap 2 as Roy Armstrong put the 6R into fourth. Watts advanced to second the next time around. With 12 to go Mike Hansen’s 94 made very hard contact with the front stretch wall and headed to the pit on the hook. Watts took over the lead on the restart. Armstrong moved up to third the next lap. Jeff Ware took over the fourth spot after another circuit. Armstrong advanced to second with 5 to go and Ware followed him into the third spot the next time around. Watts and Armstrong got together with 2 to go, spinning to the infield. The top 4 remained unchanged from there to the checkers with Ware, Fluckiger, Jackson and Beckman the top 4.

This was Jeff’s 6 straight win at Eagle Raceway this year. Ware stated “That was a hammer down track! Never lift, just keep hustling!! I think that on that last restart with 10 or 12 to go I was sitting  6th or 7th and I knew I had to just keep picking them off and picking them off. Then Roy and Watts got together and I knew I had to stay clear of it. If that didn’t happen, I think it would have been a good finish. All 3 of us at the line would have been really close”. Ware’s sponsors include Roth Racing, Shane’s Repair, Demon Decals, Charger Chassis, T & R Repair, Integra Shocks and Avenue Bar.

Ryan Jenkins put the 24T out front of lap 1 for the Hoosier Tire IMCA Modified A Feature with Clint Homan’s 27, the 25! of Trevor Baker and Johnny Saathoff’s 96J rounding out the top 4. Saathoff passed Baker for third on lap 4 but lost the spot to the 60IV of Anthony Roth the next time around. Homan headed to the pits with 12 to go, making the top 4 Jenkins, Roth, Saathoff and Baker. Mike Densberger passed Baker with 9 laps left to put the 81 into fourth but lost the spot to the 5Z of Bob Zoubek after another circuit. Danny Lane looped the 15A the next time around, slowing the action. Jordan Grabouski moved the 30 to fourth on the restart and took over third the next lap. Roth grabbed the top spot with 6 to go. The final change in the top 4 came the next circuit as Densberger moved to third. That made the top 4 Roth, Jenkins, Grabouski and Zoubek.

Roth’s win came from the 12th spot on the starting grid. “I can’t remember if that’s 4 or 5 wins here this year. I believe that it should have been all of them, but I’ve had a little bad luck the past couple of weeks, but other than that I’ve been up front. I knew that starting 12th I had a long way to go and a short time to get there, so I just kept on the gas and went through the field and got to the front. There was a lot of tack in a lot of places, and some slick spots too. If you could stay in the tacky it gave you better traction. You just had to move around. I went wherever the other cars weren’t at” he said.

The Duros Dent Works IMCA Racesaver Sprint Car main event was the final contest of the night. Brandon Horton’s 1B, the 12 of Tyler Drueke, Dwight Carter’s 4U and Jason Danley in the 4X were the first four back to the flag stand. Lap 3 saw Neil Nickolite roll the 12N over in turn 3 after contact with another car, collecting the 93 of Ryan King. He was not seriously injured, but the car had to be towed off the track. Drueke took over the lead on the restart as Trevor Grossenbacher put the 35 into fourth. Danley again took the fourth position the next time around but lost it back to Grossenbacher after another circuit.  Lap 8 saw Grossenbacher move up to third. Danley again grabbed the fourth spot on lap 11.  Carter dropped to the infield shortly after that with engine problems, putting Nate Weiler’s 4Winto fourth. Grossenbacher moved up to second with 9 to go. Mike Boston used a huge charge coming out of turn 4 on the final lap to grab fourth in the 51. The final to 4 were Drueke, Grossenbacher, Horton and Boston.

This marked Drueke’s 2nd win this year at the track, after starting in the inside of the second row. He said “I didn’t know how big of a lead I had. I was just trying to keep track of the lapped cars. I knew that I hadn’t lapped Trevor or Mike. I got held up there for a little while and I knew that they had to be coming from somewhere. I was just driving like my life depended on it. Matt, Dustin, Dad, Mom, my brother and Randy all did their jobs and I was just fortunate to get out front. The track started out really heavy, but then it got a little character. The bottom was definitely the preferred line, but I was just good enough on the top to get around a few of the slower cars until I could get down to where I wanted to be. Being versatile and being able to move around was key”. Drueke’s sponsors include Zoz Farms, Drueke Trucking, Gordon Electric Inc., Jeffres Trucking, Cornhusker 800, TD Signs and Graphics, Drueke Ranch, Agri-Builders Inc., Double Z, Angel Energy Services, True Trucking and Danner Spray Foam.
