Dirty Divas Night wins go to Saathoff, Hansen, Smith, King and Reichwaldt

By Greg Soukup

Dirty Divas Night, presented by the Lincoln Saltdogs and Coors Light brought beautiful warm weather and the usual fantastic racing action to the high banks of America’s Home Track.

The first lap leader of the NAPA IMCA Sport Modified A Feature was Joey Feyen in the 25X with Gary Saathoff’s 96, the 67D of Jason Trent and Joe Schidler in the K00 rounding out the top 4. Bob Ruisinger moved the #7 into fourth on lap 3. Ruisinger moved up to third 3 laps later as Scott Bivens put the S56 into fourth. Shawn Harker’s #40 overtook Bivens the next time around. Roger Sluka looped the 5S in turns 1 & 2 after another circuit for a caution. Bivens got back past Harker on lap 9 and Saathoff moved under Feyen the next circuit for the lead. Benji Legg vaulted the 25B all of the way up to 2nd after another lap. Ruisinger passed his way up to third the next lap with Bivens taking 4th the next time around. The last position changes in the top 4 came with 3 to go as Bivens and Harker both passed Ruisinger. The top 4 at the checkers were Saathoff, Legg, Bivens and Harker. However, Bivens was disqualified in tech after an out of position bar was found. That moved Ruisinger to fourth.

This was the first victory this year for defending track champion Saathoff. “I got a good start for the feature, and that’s the key here at Eagle. The track ended up slick in the A, but there was some moisture down on the bottom. So, I put my left rear in it and stayed there. I want to give a special thanks to Schmidt Machine. They built my first motor this year, but I just didn’t like it. So, they recammed it and it’s really hitting hard now. Also, thanks to my pit crew Duane, Tracy and Gary Laflin” Saathoff said. Saathoff’s sponsors include Schmidt Machine, Jet Racing, Homes 101 and Home Instead Health Care.

Next up was the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock finale. The 52DD of James Pittman, Tim Kozak’s 29, Nick Beckman in the 22 and Luke Nicholson’s 55N were the first four to the flag stand on lap 1. Beckman grabbed the lead, Pittman moved to second and Chad Fegley’s 13F took over third on lap 3. RJ Macku’s 93 stopped in turn 2 the next lap. Fegley moved up to second and Mike Hansen put the 94 in fourth on the restart. Fegley got badly out of shape coming out of turn 4 on lap 6, collecting Pittman. That made the top 4 Beckman, Hansen, Kozak and the 42 of Rob Brown. Brown and Justin Busboom’s 62 both passed Kozak on lap 7, but Busboom surrendered the fourth spot to Mark McKinney’s 23 the next circuit. McKinney also gave up fourth after another lap when Roy Armstrong moved the 6R into the position. Armstrong advanced to third on lap 12. Hansen took over the lead on lap 14. John Cain moved to fourth with 4 to go in his 44 but McKinney took the position back the last lap. Hansen, Beckman, Armstrong and McKinney led the field at the finish.

This was Hansen’s first win of the 2014 season. “I looked at the cars ahead of me and knew Chad was going to be the toughest to pass. But, when he got loose it made it almost too easy. I thought I let it slip away there for a bit, but Beckman came back to me. Thanks to the ‘Pit Bull’, my brother Kevin and all of the moms for coming out to watch us” Hansen stated. Hansen’s sponsors include Keckler’s Oil and Creative Edge Designs both from Weeping Water.

The Kaplan University IMCA Modifieds then moved to the track. Rik Gropp looped the V45 on the initial circuit for a yellow flag and Clint Homan’s 27 and Shane Hiatt in the 21H spun to avoid him. Aaron Pella’s 3A, the 86 of Justin Wulf and the Andersen brothers Dustin in the 8A and Chad in the 8C topped the field as an official lap was entered into the books. Chad Andersen passed his brother for third on lap 3 with Dylan Smith moving to fourth in the 95 the next lap. Chad Andersen took over second on lap 6 before grabbing the lead the next time around with Wulf following him into second. Smith passed Wulf the next lap before taking the lead heading to the flag stand. Matt Boucher spun the 5B on lap 9 to slow the field again. Johnny Saathoff took over fourth on lap 10 in his 96J. 2 more laps were in the books saw Chad Andersen take back the second spot. Saathoff spun with 7 to go after contact with Dustin Andersen for yet another caution. Mike Densberger moved to fourth on the restart, and then put the 81 into third after another lap. Pella spun with 5 laps left, taking the 3 of Chris Alcorn with him. With just 1 to go the 07L of Logan Jessen stopped to set up a green, white, checkered finish. Chad Andersen scrubbed the turns 1 & 2 walls on the last lap, moving Densberger to second. The checkered flag saw Smith winning, Densberger second, Chad Andersen third and Wulf fourth.

This week’s victory was Smith’s second in a row. “The yellow on the start moved me up a couple of rows. I tried some new shocks tonight, and the car ran really great. It was really drivable and did whatever I needed it to. It seems like I’m on a hot streak, and I hope it keeps going” he said. Smith’s sponsors include Active Life Chiropractic, Bilstein Shocks, Jet Racing, Friesen Chevrolet and Woods Machine.

Brian Haller in the 2CS led the Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Compact A with Thomas Powell’s 18R, the 48 of Kevin Fearing and James King in the 13 close behind. Haller dove to the infield on lap 2 and Fearing took over the lead with Justin Olsen’s 14J grabbing fourth. Olsen moved up to third the next time around. 1 more lap saw King move to first and Brandon Thornton put the 21T into fourth. Kyle Owen’s 10K stopped in turn 2 on lap 6. Kole Krichau’s 30K and Haller got together in turn 4 after another lap. Olsen advanced to second with 8 to go. Tanner Schmitz cracked the top 4 when he put the 10 in the position. King, Olsen, Fearing and Schmitz were the top 4 at the end.

This win made it 2 out of three for King. “I’ll take it!! I want to dedicate this win to Meghan. Thanks to Brenning painting; they did all of our cars. And thanks to Roger for the big checks. I’m putting them up in my garage” King related.

Eric Reichwaldt used his pole position start to lead the first circuit of the Mud In America IMCA Racesaver sprint feature. Close behind his #13 were the 54 of Nate Weiler, Tadd Holliman in the 2N and the 44 of Matt Richards. Holliman advanced 1 spot on each of the next 2 laps, taking first on lap 4 with Adam Gullion putting his 91 into fourth. Gullion moved up another spot and took third the next circuit. Mark Vanderheiden ran headlong into the turn 2 wall on lap 5, lighting the red lights. Vanderheiden was okay. At that time the top 4 were Holliman, Reichwaldt, Gullion and Weiler. Richards moved back into fourth on lap 7 before giving the spot up to Mike Boston’s 51 with 14 to go. Clint Benson overtook Boston 3 laps later, putting the 100 into fourth. Boston got back past Benson with 8 to go and Gullion moved up to second the next lap before taking over the top spot with 2 to go. Reichwaldt made a last lap pass on Holliman to grab second. The first 4 to the flag stand were Gullion, Reichwaldt, Holliman and Boston. Gullion was disqualified for excessive lift in his valve train during post-race inspection, putting Richards into fourth.

This was Reichwaldt’s second Racesaver win, but his first at Eagle Raceway. “That was a heck of a last lap pass! I want to thank my dad for fixing the frame on this car and Mike Sanborn for helping me put it back together. The competition is even better this year than last. It’s just a lot racier. I’m so glad to see the car count is growing, and the fans are really enjoying themselves” Reichwaldt stated. Reichwaldt’s sponsors are Reichwaldt Enterprises and Lyn-Den Enterprises.
This coming weekend is Armed Forces Night, presented by Kaplan University and Miller Lite.
