Bohlmeyer, Lovegrove, Homan, Ware & Harker conquer the Highbanks on August 3rd

Bohlmeyer, Lovegrove, Homan, Ware & Harker conquer the Highbanks on August 3rd

By Greg Soukup

High Bank Showdown, presented by Rotella’s Italian Bakery saw a good crowd enjoying the racing action under partly overcast skies with a nice breeze and low 80’s temperatures. That action was fierce all evening with a minimum of two racing lanes all the way through to the last lap.

Dion Kovar’s 18 led the first lap of the Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Modified Feature with Braydon Latture’s 14, the 7V of Adam Vrbka and Derek Hall in the 44D rounding out the top 4. Vrbka moved past Latture on lap 2 for the second spot as Cole Wayman jumped up to third in the 18W with Latture holding down fourth. Hall regained fourth the next time around. Lap 5 saw Wayman advance to second. 3 laps later Shawn Harker got past Hall to put the #40 into fourth. There were 9 laps left when Harker took over the third position. Jason Heaps looped the 88J the next time around and the yellow flag flew. Harker moved up to second on the restart but Jeremy Baker’s 3J spun in turn 4. Harper again advanced to second on the restart with Wayman following him into second a lap later. Joe Feyen put the 25X into fourth after another circuit. Heaps again looped his racer the next lap in 3 and 4 for another caution. Vrbka spun in turn 4 on the restart. Hall regained fourth and moved to third a lap after the restart as Kovar moved back to fourth. Feyen regained fourth the next lap and the top 4 remained unchanged to the finish. Harker won with Wayman, Hall and Feyen rounding out the top 4.

This was only the second victory at Eagle Raceway this year.  He stated “That was a good night! The car was good, and the track was good. The Speedway Motors engine ran flawlessly tonight, my Jet Racing chassis was on point. We’re on a second place kick this year. We ran second 18 times this year at different tracks, but my crew guys do a phenomenal job for me. Brandon, my son Preston, my Dad all do a great job and I can’t thank them enough”. Harker’s sponsors include Speedway Crate Engines and Shocks, Tex Cattle Company and Jet Racing.

Jim Kimmel looped the 17Kin turn 4 on the first lap of the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock A Feature. When an official lap was in the books it was the 69 of Kenny Tyler Jackson third and Brooke Fluckiger’s 2B rounding out the top 4. Adam Wasserman spun out the 41 in turn 4 on lap 2 for another caution. Colby Kaspar used the restart to put the 39C into fourth. Kaspar took advantage of the restart to snag fourth. Lemke took over the top spot on lap 3. Roberts regained the lead on lap 6. Jared Jackson spun the #98 in turn 2 on lap 8 and the yellow lights were it in the corners. Dave Carter took over the fourth spot on lap 9 but went into the infield the next time around. He lost fourth to Brett Saathoff’s 11B before coming back onto the track. Lemke took over first the same lap but lost the spot back to Roberts the next circuit before regaining the lead after another lap. Cole Krichau had moved the 30K to the infield and showed fire from beneath his racer. This brought out the caution. Jackson again spun out on the restart, this time in turn 4. Jeff Ware put the 83 into fourth on the restart and advanced to third the next lap as Saathoff moved up to second. Ware passed Saathoff with 3 to go as Kaspar regained fourth. With a huge move in the final two corners Ware took over the top spot at the checkers with Lemke, Saathoff and Kaspar rounding out the top 4.

Ware stated “That one took a lot longer. The last lap pass was intense; I don’t know what to say! Everybody was fast tonight, and everybody was on their game. I tried to just pick and choose my lines and be really precise”. Ware’s sponsors include Roth Racing, Shane’s Repair, Demon Decals, Charger Chassis, T & R Repair, Integra Shocks and Avenue Bar.

The Hoosier Tire IMCA Modified A Main’s first circuit was led by Clint Homan’s 27 followed by Aaron Pella’s 3A, the 3T of Nate Thompson and Johnny Saathoff in the 96J. Trevor Baker got past Saathoff on lap 5 to put the 25! Into fourth and moved up to third the next lap with Shane Hiatt taking over fourth in the 21H. Pella dropped back, moving Thompson to second Hiatt to third and Saathoff to fourth. Homan stretched his lead to a straightaway at the end with the top 4 remaining unchanged to the checkered flag.

This marked Homan’s second 2019 victory at Eagle. “I’ve been close a couple of other times but ended up having car problems. It feels good to get another win! Our points average is down because of all of the DNF’s, so we started second row outside tonight. Last week I should have run the top in turns 1 and 2 and I didn’t, so I figured that since I started outside, I would run it tonight until somebody passed me. I never saw or heard anybody, so I stayed up there. I want to thank my crew, Cory, Mom and Dad and of course my wife and kids” he said. Homan’s sponsors include Homan Auto, GRT Race Cars, Speedway Graphics, Speedway Crate Engines and Shocks and NAPA Auto Parts”.

Tim Horsham’s 3, the 35 of Brian Cronin, Devin Bruce in the 52D and the 88K of RJ Maas led lap #1 of the ATV Motorsports IMCA Sport Compact finale. Drake Bohlmeyer put the 24 into third on lap 2 with Bruce holding down fourth. Steffen Oaks passed Bruce on lap 4, taking the spot in his #17. Bohlemeyer advanced to second the next lap and took over the lead with 8 to go. Oaks jumped up to second the next time around and advanced to first after 2 more circuits. From there to the finish the top 4 battled back and forth but remained unchanged with Oaks crossing the finish line first, Bohlmeyer second, Horsham third and Bruce fourth. Oaks was disqualified during post-race technical inspection for having a modified suspension. That moved Bohlmeyer into the top spot, Horsham to second, Cronin third and Bruce fourth.

This marked Bohlmeyer’s first win at Eagle this season, coming from 12th at the start. “I got to the front pretty quick. Then I got lucky because someone DQ’ed. I led the race, then fell to second. Then they told me about the DQ, so I got the win. It’s not the way I wanted to win, but I like whenever I get the win. I want to thank my grandpa; he’s the main guy in the operation. He helps to pay for a lot of stuff, I use his truck and trailer. I also want to thank my Mom and Dad and my uncle George. Also, all of my buddies who help me out with the car” he stated. Bohlmeyer’s sponsors include Hardin Farms and Morris Used Cars.

Doug Lovegrove took advantage of starting on the pole of the Racesaver IMCA Sprint Car A Feature to put the #1 out front of the first lap with Brandon Horton’s 1B, the 20 of Tim Hilfiker and Mike Boston’s 51 close behind. Chase Weiler leaped up to third on lap 2 in his 0 sprint with Boston remaining in fourth. Boston passed Weiler on lap 7 for third with Adam Gullion moving up to fourth in the 91JV. From there to the finish it was a tale of 2 different lines with Lovegrove hugging the bottom and Horton, Boston and Gullion pounding the cushion. Lovegrove moved through the lapped traffic and extended his lead at the end to a straightaway with Horton coming home second, Boston third and Gullion fourth.

This marked win #1 in 2019 for Lovegrove. He said “It’s been way too long!! We’ve been having motor problems all year; this is only the third race I’ve finished this season! We’ve been out here a lot, but we’ve been through 4 camshafts we’ve turned. This was the end of it! If this motor didn’t live, we were done for the year, but it’s running great!!  It was a good track to get out front tonight. I’m pretty good around the bottom, and it was a good track tonight. I think that’s why I was able to run away a little bit. I got lucky on some of the traffic. The guys decided to run a lane up when I got to them. I had to move a couple of guys, but not too bad. I apologized to them already and they didn’t seem too mad. I’ll take it. I want to give a big thank you to Kevin Beasley for all the work he’s putting in now. My crew chief moved away so he’s usually not here”. Lovegrove’s sponsors include Precise Racing Products, Trackside Bar and Grill and Quick Dump Refuse.

Next weekend is Junior Fan Club Pajama Jam, presented by Colby Ridge. There will be free admission for all children 12 and under and free kids car rides at intermission. Kids who are wearing pajamas will qualify for prizes!!
